angst(ish? who knows not me) warning :)
———

(Y/N) hated change.

He doesn't like how one thing can be the same for his whole life, and it can just change completely in a few seconds.

He was pretty sure not a lot of people liked change, but he hated—hated it. He would go out of his way to try and prevent it from changing.

And well, sadly, his win streak against his friends for Just Dance could not be saved from the clutches of inevitable change.

"ARE YOU JOKING?!" (Y/N) shouted, waving his arm around. "YOU WON BY ONE STAR!"

"Guess you're just not as talented as me," Kuroo shrugged, a smug grin plastered on his ugly, punchable face.

"I hate Just Dance," said Kenma, who lost by three stars. "Can't we play something else? Like—"

"Like that new workout game (Y/N)'s sister brought? Great idea, Kenma!" Kenma groaned loudly. (Y/N) laughed and noticed Kuroo staring at him. He simply turned to Kenma and patted him on the head in sympathy. Kenma glared at (Y/N), and (Y/N) quickly took his hand away.

"Don't worry, Kenma. I'm planning on pranking Kuroo soon anyways," (Y/N) said, earning himself a pouting Kuroo and a slightly less agitated Kenma.

(Y/N) was not blind. He could see that Yamaguchi's hair was brown and—maybe more importantly since everyone knew that as a fact—he could also see Kuroo watching him from the corner of his sight. But he couldn't understand what for. Was he more ugly? Did he have something on his face? He refused to think it was anything else.

He's not incapable of dealing with change. He does not cry when a show changes a character's actor or when he has to get new clothes. He actually liked buying new clothes so maybe this wasn't the best example but whatever. The deal is this: major changes suck, and he hates it.

But he thinks he can deal with this slight, insignificant change of Kuroo staring at him longer just so a bigger change doesn't happen.

But then confession letters sent to him started going missing. He didn't notice at first, because he didn't really care, but the girls who wrote them did.

"Um... so, have you thought about my letter?" The girl who had come up to him during lunch does the thing where girls twirl their hair around their finger.

"What letter?"

"The one I put in your locker..."

"Is this a joke or something?" (Y/N) yawned. "There wasn't... weren't....? There are no letters in my locker."

"Oh, um..." the girl awkwardly shifted her weight onto her left leg. "Um, uh... bye!" she quickly speed walked out of his classroom.

"Sorry?" (Y/N) called out to her, feeling a little bad. Or maybe it was just a prank like he thought. "Man... Was I being a jerk? I hope she doesn't get sad or something..."

And then this happened three more times, each girl a little more agitated then the rest as they've heard what has happened before.

(Y/N) brought it up to Kenma and Kuroo one day at lunch. Kenma didn't reply at all, and Kuroo just shrugged before throwing an arm over (Y/N)'s shoulders and forcing him closer. Which, okay, weird, but (Y/N) could deal with it.
