Christine felt shivers of anticipation and excitement shoot down her spine as she walked down the corridor to the lair. It was cold and musty for sure, but she knew her shivers had more to do with the person she knew was at the end of the path. She briskly followed the familiar path, her heart pounding as she grew closer. She could sense him there, the man who had always been in her life. From the moment she had arrived at the opera house when she was seven. Her angel, her friend, her love. She smiled as she came upon the boat. She was home.

She had always kept her memories and secrets close, not really opening up to anyone. She reminisced over the memories of her beloved father and the more recent memories of her Angel. She knew he also had deep secrets that he had never shared, and she just wished that he would share them with her.

She wanted to see his face. She was dying to know who he really was! It was his turn now to share his secrets. After all, he knew everything there possibly was to know about her. She was ready to know all there was to know about him in return.

Her mind was swimming with all of these thoughts as she arrived. She tied the boat and ran to find him. She had never felt more certain in her entire life than she had in this moment. She was here for a reason, and that feeling of purpose grounded her, calming yet exciting her as she searched for him. Could this be the moment that she was destined to live through? She had always been different from everyone else after all: hearing voices nobody else heard, following strange men below the catacombs of her home, etc. Maybe, if she learned more about her Angel, she'd find out why she was so different.

Then she saw him.

She was no longer shivering and shaking as she saw him, standing with his back to her. She froze. She had come so far, and he was so close. He was the one she'd been waiting for her entire life, she just knew it!

"Show yourself," she started, breathlessly, "let me see who you are!" She stood there as he slowly turned around, a look of sorrow and pain on his masked face. She wished he would just go to her, open his heart to her, let her share his pain!

Without another thought, Christine stepped closer slowly, as if not to scare him off. A sudden chill swept between them as she came closer to the love of her life. Memories of all of their encounters swept through her, and she smiled happily. She was lost before he came into her life. Now, she was found. She was now right in front of him. She gazed up into his guarded eyes. She gently caressed his unmarred cheek letting him know that it was okay now.

With a deep sigh, Erik slowly took off his mask to reveal his true face. Upon seeing him, Christine threw her arms around his neck and pulled him into a passionate kiss. One that both of them would remember for the rest of their lives together.
