“Will you… will you please come home with me… na?”
Mew’s voice trembled as he reached for him—soft, pleading, full of something he couldn’t say out loud yet.
Gulf pulled away slightly, his eyes flickering with panic. “Mew… please. Don’t force me to go back. You know what I am. You know Dad still doesn’t know. So… please, my dear friend. Don’t ask me for this.”
His voice cracked.
Mew took a slow step forward, his gaze never leaving Gulf’s.
“Gulf… please. I’ll be there. I’ll help you. I’ll stay by your side, always. You won’t have to face anything alone.”
“No… I’m sorry,” Gulf whispered, lowering his head. “I can’t. I can’t go back there and do something wrong. I’ll shame the family. Ruin everything.”
His hands curled into fists at his sides.
“You can’t be with me all the time, Mew. What if… what if I fall asleep and wake up as Kana? Or Shiv… or Shine? What if I open my eyes, and I’m not me anymore? What happens then?”
His voice broke apart, unraveling piece by piece.
“You’ll be in your room, sleeping peacefully, and I’ll be downstairs, destroying Dad’s reputation. I’ll be all over the news. ‘The crazy son of a business tycoon.’ Another scandal. Another tragedy. Mew, I—I can’t do that to him. I can’t do that to you.”
Tears fell silently from Gulf’s eyes, trailing down his cheeks like shattered stars.
But before he could crumble further, Mew wrapped his arms around him—tight, unshakable.
“I promise,” Mew whispered, his breath warm against Gulf’s ear. “If I have to, I’ll sleep in the same room… in the same bed. I’ll hold your hand through the night. I’ll guard you from everything that tries to come out of you. I’ll be your light in the dark.”
A single tear slid down Mew’s face.
“I’ll take care of it all. I’ll never let you fall, nong… so please… come home with me.”
Gulf stood still, shaking in his arms.
He could feel it—Mew’s heart, beating strong and steady against his chest. The soft warmth of Mew’s cheek pressed against his own.
And for one brief second, he wished time would stop.
He wished he could stay like that forever—just two people wrapped in something too fragile to name.
But reality was cruel. And so was his truth.
How could he let himself hold onto something so pure, when everything inside him was broken?
Kana. Shine. Shiv.
The others were always there, hiding beneath his skin.
And Kana… Kana had already hurt Mew before.
How could he bring that monster back into Mew’s life?
Still, he hugged him tightly—desperate, trembling—and whispered through the storm inside his chest:
“Thank you… Thank you, beautiful soul. You were always behind me… catching me every time I fell. Thank you for never walking away…”
A pause. Then his voice fell to ash.
“But Mew… I can’t come home. I can’t risk hurting you again. I’ve already hurt you too much…”
His voice collapsed into sobs, loud and trembling.
He cried like a boy who had held it in for years.
And Mew held him through all of it, hands shaking, eyes wide with grief.
“Shhh…” Mew said softly. “Then I’ll stay here. I’ll stay with you. Wherever you are, I’ll be there. So don’t feel alone, Gulf. Don’t shut me out. I’ll help you. I’ll heal you. Just don’t give up on me.”
He pressed his forehead to Gulf’s, lips barely moving.
“I love you, nong… I love you so much.”
He didn’t say it out loud.
But it was there, in every heartbeat. In every breath. In the way he held him like the world would end if he let go.
And maybe… in some way…
it already had.
