The silence was comforting.
Too comforting.
Gulf sat alone in the dim living room, a warm cup of coffee resting between his hands as if it could keep the ghosts at bay. The room was still—too still—and his thoughts wandered where they always did when he was left alone.
Back to Mew.
Back to all those stolen days of laughter, running through childhood like it would never end.
Back to the way Mew would always find him—whether he was smiling or shattered.
Mew wasn’t just a friend. He was something more.
A brother. A family. A piece of air Gulf couldn’t breathe without.
Sometimes… Gulf even believed that Mew lived in the silence between his heartbeats.
Two years.
That’s how long it had been since fate forced them apart.
Two years ago, Gulf was sent away to the States.
His family, still unaware of his diagnosis—Dissociative Identity Disorder—believed he simply needed to forget. That distance and time would heal him. That if they sent him far enough, the past wouldn’t follow.
They were wrong.
And worse—his father never trusted Mew. Not truly. Not back then.
Because Mew was the son of the man who tried to kill Gulf.
But no one knew the truth.
They didn’t see the way Mew had cried for him.
The way he’d held Gulf’s broken body like it was something sacred.
They didn’t know that Mew would have died to protect him.
Gulf sipped his coffee and stared into the quiet spaces of the room.
So much time lost... So many nights crying alone... And yet, every time Mew called, I smiled like nothing hurt.
But now—
Now Mew was here.
Now Mew had come back for him.
And he was smiling again. Truly smiling.
But...
What about Mew?
His life is still in Thailand. How could he possibly stay here?
Would he be comfortable? Would he miss his home?
Gulf clenched his cup tighter.
Mew has already saved me so many times... How many more times must I lean on him before he breaks too?
But I can’t go back.
Not yet. Not like this.
What if they find out? What if my family sees what I’ve become? Will they still love me... or will they look at me with disgust?
It’s so terrifying...
But what terrifies me more... is hurting Mew again.
He stared into the void in front of him. He didn’t notice the footsteps behind him.
Didn’t feel the weight of Mew’s eyes watching from the doorway.
Mew stood there silently, arms crossed, gaze soft and unreadable.
And then—his voice broke the silence.
“Hey, beautiful…”
Gulf startled and looked up, face already turning crimson.
“Mewwwww…” he mumbled, embarrassed.
“Oh?” Mew teased, stepping in. “Why are your ears so red, huh?”
“Mew…” Gulf squirmed. “Don’t forget what you promised…”
“Hmm? What promise?”
“You said you’d sleep in my bed… and hold my hand all night…”
“HUHHHH?!”
Gulf folded his arms and turned away. “You promised…”
Mew blinked—then grinned.
“Ohhh... What made you change your mind?”
“That… that’s a secret.”
“Ah,” Mew smirked, stepping closer. “Or maybe… maybe you just want me to hold you all night, huh?”
Gulf’s face lit up redder than the sunset. He backed away a step. “D-Don’t come closer…”
“Why not?” Mew said playfully, inching forward. “You scared I’ll do something... or scared you want me to do something?”
His voice dropped low.
Sultry. Dangerous.
Mew leaned in—his breath hot against Gulf’s neck.
“So cute…” he whispered.
Gulf’s whole body trembled.
A soft, almost inaudible sound escaped his lips—more instinct than thought.
Mew froze.
His eyes widened in realization, and in the next breath, he was gone—jumping back like he’d touched fire.
“I’m sorry, Nong,” he said quickly, panicked. “I didn’t mean to— I’m sorry!”
He rushed out, leaving the door swinging behind him.
Gulf sat still for a long moment, cheeks burning, chest pounding.
“…Idiot,” he muttered, wiping at his face. “You were playing again, weren’t you?”
But then his eyes softened. His fingers curled around the space where Mew had been.
“One day… I’ll make you love me too, Mew.”
He looked toward the door.
“But first… I need to heal.”
His voice dropped to a whisper.
“Until then… please don’t leave my side.”
