Piper's POV:
I braced myself for the incredible pain that was about to come. I was about to die. I thought about everything I had been through to get here. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Alfie pulled the safety catch off. One touch and it would fire. I closed my eyes and smiled. I was going to die happy. I had a team, a best friend and the best boyfriend I could ask for. I was satisfied. I heard the gun fire two shots. But I didn't feel any pain. Is this what death feels like? I opened my eyes and looked around. I could see everyone. I pressed my fingers to my temple. I didn't feel any blood. "Am I alive?" I choked out. Emily nodded. I looked down next to me. Alfie was lying on the floor bleeding from his leg. Next to him was...Finn. I fell down next to him and examined his abdomen. His shirt was stained red. "Oh my god no!" I tore of his shirt to get to the wound. The blood was pooling in his abdomen. "Call an ambulance." I needed to put pressure on the wound. I grabbed his shirt and tore a strip off. I wrapped it tightly around his stomach. Once I had applied pressure I checked his pulse. It was weak. I put my ear to his chest. He had a pneumothorax. "Shit ok tell that ambulance to get here faster. We need to drain the air from around his lung." His eyes fluttered open for a fraction of a second, "I love you Piper." Tears ran down my cheeks. "I love you too Finn." He sighed before his eyes shut again. The ambulance came and we drove, flashing lights, all the way to the hospital. When we arrived he was taken straight to the OR to drain his chest and abdomen. He had a lost a lot of blood. A second ambulance had taken Alfie. He had also lost a lot of blood but they had to fix him to be taken into questioning. I waited anxiously outside the OR to see if Finn was going to make it. Turns out he had ran at Alfie and had tackled him to the ground. Alfie had pulled the trigger and fired a shot at his own leg and Finn's lower abdomen. The force of him landing on Alfie had cause a chest trauma which caused the pneumothorax. The two injuries combined could be fatal. The time it had taken for the ambulance to arrive had taken necessary time, the pneumothorax had cut off half his respiratory functions. The oxygen may have been cut off from his brain. Not to mention he was bleeding out into his abdominal cavity. The whole team had arrived to wait to hear if he was going to make it. Everyone was waiting nervously for the news. At last a surgeon came out the OR. "My name is Doctor Callahan. It was a bit touch and go but Finn has managed to pull through his surgery." I choked out a relieved noise. "However there wasn't enough oxygen to his brain for a short period of time. This cut off some brain activity. Because of this he is not awake and is currently in a coma like state. He is technically alive. However he may never wake up." My relief turned to horror. "Can I see him?" I asked shakily. "Yes of course. Come with me. Only one person to start with." He handed me over to a nurse who led me to his room. "I'll give you some privacy." She left and I sat down on the chair next to the bed. "Hi Finn. It's Piper. I don't know if you can hear me but I hope you can. I love you and I'm so thankful that you saved me." I took his hand and squeezed it. I sat there watching him. The monitor that measure his blood pressure and heart rate beeped steadily in the background. Each member of A-troupe came in one by one to visit Finn. I stayed there through the while thing. Not leaving his side for more than 5 minutes to go to the bathroom. I wasn't leaving him ever again.
Emily cancelled the next few tour dates. Amy visited everyday. I didn't sleep. My eyes were permanently red from tears. Everyday turned into a blur. It was all the same. My life was nothing without Finn. I grew used to the beeping of machines. The hourly checks from the nurses. The horrible hospital food. Finn's eyes remained closed. Until one day. It was three weeks after the accident. I was holding on, as usual, to his hand, when I felt his fingers move. I looked down at our intertwined hands in disbelief. He moved his fingers again. "Finn? Can you hear me?" I scanned his face for any sign of recognition. His eyes opened a fraction. "Finn oh my god!" I fell on his chest and hugged him tightly. He moved his hand to my back as I sobbed into his chest. "Piper? As much as I love you, could you get off my chest? It kind of hurts." I immediately got off him. "I'm sorry. I-I need to call the doctor." I pressed the call button and a nurse came in. She smiled when she saw Finn was awake. As she took his vitals she said, "you're a fighter aren't you Finn? And your girlfriend is incredibly loyal. I don't think she ever left your side." I blushed lightly while Finn chuckled. When the nurse was satisfied she left Finn and I alone. "I really though you weren't going to make it." "Ah no. I was always going to live for you. Just a matter of getting of my lazy ass." I gave him a watery smile. He was still weak but he was stable. He was going to live. My smile widened.
A/n: Hey guys! I'm so, so sorry for not updating for ages! I lost my inspiration for this book but I should hopefully be back now! I will also be updating my Heathizzy book in the next few hours!
Oh and if you weren't completely clear, a pneumothorax is a collapsed lung. A pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the space between your lung and chest wall. This air pushes on the outside of your lung and makes it collapse. In this case the pneumothorax is a complete lung collapse not a collapse of only a portion.
