the next day, school was just the usual. it was pretty boring for most students, but not to ricky and ej. both of them had planned to hang out after six years of not seeing each other. ricky was thrilled to finally catch up with him. he wanted to know how he's been ever since ricky moved, but deep down there's one thing he would like to know from him.

ej's relationship with nini

he knew ej's the nicest and most humble guy ever, that's why he didn't believe when he saw ej's attitude towards nini. he thought maybe ej didn't like her because of her disability but he knew ej's not that kind of person.

his thoughts were interrupted by a knock from his fromt door. he opened it and saw the guy who was on his mind. him and ej did a bro hug and let him come inside. they walked over to the kitchen and met mike bowen.

"ah, ej! how are you buddy? you've grown up very well." mike greeted him with a warm hug

"hi mike, i'm very good, thank you." he laughed

"you're staying for dinner, right? i'm making my famous lasagna tonight."

"of course." he answered, "where's lynne?"

"still working but i think she should be home soon, today's basically my dad's early hour to go home and it's his turn to make dinner." ricky told him

"alright, go and have fun you two, i'll call you when dinner's ready." mike shooed them away

when they were in ricky's room, ej sat down on his bed while ricky sat on the comfortable sofa on the corner of his room, strumming some chords with his guitar on his lap. ej was stunned to hear the sound.

"nice one, rick. is that new?"

"oh uh, that was mine and nini's work for our music class project."

he flinched when ricky mention nini. oh" he muttered, sounded disappointed. ricky raised his eyebrows at him but then he let it off. he really want to know their background story, but he knew ej won't just tell him right away when basically not a single person knew why he's being cold around nini.

ej was the first one to break the silence and let the conversation going. they catch up with everything. ej told him about football, his dream college, which he had applied to yale, harvard, and columbia. he also told ricky what he should know about the school. ricky did the same by telling him his experience in la, how many people try to befriended him but he knew those people just wanted some popularity because he was popular already because of his gorgeous face. sure, he has friends there but they're not as comfortable as ej and his new friends group. then, ej asked him an interesting question, which he was also unsure to answer.

"any girls catch your eyes at the moment?" he wiggled his eyebrows

he tensed up at that question, he knew the answer but he was unsure if he wanted to tell his bestfriend that he may have a small crush on his step-sister who he hates, but he tried to play it cool.

"nah, not really. i'm not in the mood." he chuckled

ej was surprised at his answer, "must be nice to be chased by many girls back then. don't think the girls in our school didn't react the same way. news and gossips are fast enough to spread around at east high."

he laughed at him, "i don't really care about that. my goal is to keep a low profile but since my best friend is popular, i guess i cannot get away from that."
