Chapter 36

Illyria was crushed. Her saddened eyes staring into Levi’s furious ones. How could he do this to her? Her heart dropped. When had it happened? Was it recently? He might have said ‘past encounters' but that could mean last week to Levi.

“When?” she asked, hoping he didn’t pick up on the upset in her voice. Levi grit his teeth, pressing her harder against the bars.

“Why do you care? Why does it matter?” Illyria frowned, reaching up and gripping his wrist, trying to force his hands from off her. She didn’t want him to touch her.

“Because it matters to me Levi! You should have told me!” she screamed, unable to hide how her voice broke and trembled. He pushed away from her, releasing her and taking a step back, breathing a little unsteady and eyes alive with fury.

“You should have asked!” he bellowed back, losing his composure slightly. He had a point. Illyria had never asked him about the women he had slept with before. Levi didn’t quite understand why on earth she was bringing this up now? Shouldn’t this have been a conversation that happened before they had slept together? Then again, that had been a bit of an unplanned event.

“I’m asking now! And you’re still avoiding the question!” Levi ran a hand through his hair, starting to get a headache. This was absurd. Her attitude was because she was jealous?

She had spent the night with Eren, because she was jealous? Was she looking for payback? Revenge? Did she do it just to spite him? A bit of tit for tat? His head was swimming. He couldn’t believe she would stoop to such levels. She had nearly killed Petra today, and she would have, if he and Eren hadn’t pried her away. All because she was jealous.

Levi understood it to a certain extent. He had had the same feelings when he had found her sprawled out across Eren that morning. But he had refrained from acting on such impulses. Still, Illyria had gone further than a couple of flirtatious comments. God knows what she got up to with that brat last night, how far it had gone, whereas Petra had only been mildly suggestive. His anger was certainly more justified in his opinion.

“Because it’s in the past Illyria!” His eyes focused back on her and she scoffed disbelievingly at him, her tone smoothing out, voice dropping and filling with bitterness.

“And I guess I’ll just have to take your word for that will I?” she shot at him, voice dripping in sarcasm. Levi paused. He was surprised, but that comment had actually cut him. He grit his teeth together, jaw clenching and shook his head.

“Do you hear yourself? What happened to trusting me unconditionally, Illyria?” he asked, reminding her of the previous admission she had made to him not too long back. Hurt shone in her emerald eyes. Was this really that much of a big deal? She hadn’t told him about all the people she had slept with, why was she acting like this?

“What happened to caring about me, Levi?” Illyria shot back, using his own tactic against him. He growled, shaking his head and brushing his hair out of his face in an irritated way, spreading his arms.

“What the hell do you want from me?!” he shouted, growing ever impatient with this pointless argument. Illyria pushed herself off the bars, striding towards him and closing the distance between them, glaring heartedly into his glimmering irises. He was not intimidated, not even when she gave him a solid push, causing him to take a step back as he roughly smacked her arms away, growing more than a little agitated by her combative behaviour.

“I want the fucking truth, Levi! Are you still fucking her?” Levi froze. His eyes widening in total surprise. He had not been expecting that. A look of understanding swept across his face, eyes regarding her disbelievingly.
Is that what all this was about? She wasn’t jealous. She was insecure.
