It was Dylan's birthday today and our two year anniversary. I was going to surprise him with a birthday dinner at his house with all our friends.

We have been going strong and would be for all the years to come. I couldn't think of a better person to be with. Dylan had brown hair and brown eyes and was taller than me by 3 inches. He was well built as he played a lot of sports and spends most of his time at the gym. We liked the same things and shared the same interests. You could say we were a match made in heaven.

We haven't been together for a while as we had been so busy. I was excited for his reaction for the party my friends and I are throwing for him.

"Wow you've done a good job Miles" my best friend Maddie Evans said.

I smirked at her, "Why thank you Evans". I had gone all the way as it would hopefully be an unforgettable night.

The lawn of his house was plain but the windows were covered with signs saying 'Happy Birthday Dylan!". Although the outside was bare, the inside was a whole different story. I had woken up early to see Dylan leave for his run at 6am. He normally took a couple hours as he usually stops by his favourite donut store.

It was the place where we first met and I smiled at the memory. I was sitting there by myself ordering a sugary donut (my go to order) as I see a handsome boy meet my eyes. He smiled at me and I looked away shyly. He looked around my age and I recognised him from my school. His name was Dylan Wood and he was one of the popular kids so of course we had never spoken.

I was fiddling around on my phone, trying not to look like a loner when someone sat in the booth next to me.

"Hello" Dan said. He smiled and his dimples showed and I was a sucker for them.

"Hi" I almost whispered and I cringed at how awkward I sounded.

Our conversation continued on from there and I turned more confident by the minute. We had talked for hours without realising it. In the end we exchanged numbers and went out on a first of many dates.

I had gathered a few select close friends to celebrate the joyous occasion. I had made them all blow up balloons for 2 hours to cover all the crevices in the rooms until they were all collapsing on the floor for air. Meanwhile I was out collecting food for the party and so far everything was checked off.

I had personally made the cake myself and it was a simple chocolate cake with icing details around it. I piped 'Happy Birthday Dylan' in pink icing. It was simple but perfect.

The details were all in order; including my outfit. It was a black dress that flared out 2 inches above my knee and red high heels. I wore a pearl necklace that Dylan gave me for my birthday last year and a silver chain bracelet. My makeup consisted off a smokey eye and a red lip. The outfit complimented my wavy waist-length brown hair, green eyes and porcelain skin.

"I still can't believe you brought him that!" Maddie said admiring the Michael Kors Accelerator Silver-Tone leather watch in its case.

"He always said he wanted one and he deserves it" I replied touching the curve of the watch.

She smiled at me, "You guys are so adorable together no wonder why your the golden couple. You are perfect for him and vice versa".

My friend was one of the romantic fanatics, she always believed in true love and all the myths about finding the perfect soulmate.

I smirked at her and put the watch in my purse as I wanted to give it to him when we were alone together.

Distinctly i heard a car parking in the driveway. "Hurry", I whispered to everyone, "Get down and hide!". I flicked the light switch off and hid behind the table so I would be the first one to surprise him.

I had butterflies in my stomach and I was proud of what my friends and I achieved.
Tim one of my childhood friends looked over to me and mouthed, "Well done". He also gave me a goofy thumbs up.

I grinned at him as I heard the key turn the door. My heart was jumping with excitement as the door opened. I was confused as I heard a girl giggle.

"Hurry up and get in here" I heard Dylan say, in the voice I have fallen in love with hundreds of times.

The girl laughed and my heart broke as I witnessed the scene. "We're going to get caught". Tim caught my eye as the situation unfolded but I refused to look at him.

"Don't worry nobody's home anyway".

"What about your girlfriend?".

I had enough of this. "Yeah, what about your girlfriend?" I stood up and flicked the light switch next to me.

Dylan looked at me in shock as he scanned the room noticing the balloons and rows of food on the table.

"Sophie?" he said confusingly, "What are you doing here?".

I snorted, "Supposedly celebrating your birthday and our two year anniversary". I shook my head in dismay and put my hands on my hips. "But I guess you forgot".

The girl smirked at me and wrapped herself around my boyfriend. "Come on we were just having some fun. No harm done".

I felt the presence of my friends standing up behind me and heard the gasps and whispers. "No harm done? How could you?" I couldn't even bare to look at him.

"I am sorry that this happened Sophie but you just couldn't give me what I needed". He looked at the girl beside him and had the decency to look guilty. "An offer was given and I had to take it".

"I can't believe you" I said angrily, "I thought I had meant more to you than this silly fling!". The girl looked at me seemingly to object but I put my hand up. "Save it".

Dylan cocked his head to one side, " Sorry Sophs -I cringed at the nickname I used to adore- I guess we weren't meant to be after all".

Quietly I said, "I guess not".

My eyes started to fill with tears but they hardened with anger as I saw the girl smile sweetly at me. I felt my confidence flow back into me and I mimicked her smile and said "Well I hope you like taking sloppy seconds honey because this was a total gain on my part", I laughed, "and thank you because if it wasn't for you I'd still be with that loser".

I grabbed my purse and I walked over to the girl and 'accidentally' hit her shoulder with mine. She stumbled and grabbed onto Dylan. I smirked at her "Whoops". I heard a chuckle behind me and I was sure it was Maddie. I confidently strode past them but inside my heart was breaking into a million pieces.
