I don't own Percy Jackson.

I found this online and thought I could make it into a short Story. OG post will be at the end of the story.

Coach Hedge's POV

Sometimes I like to do random bed checks. To make sure all the Cupcakes are in their bed and not asleep on the stable floor. I look at the time, two in the morning. I decide it's a good time to do a bed check.

I walk down the hall, Jason and Leo are supposed to be on watch, but everyone else should be in bed. Leo's room is across from mine and everyone else is across from their boyfriend/girlfriend.

I start at Piper's room because it's the closest. I open the door a little. Piper is asleep so, I close the door. Then, I go next door to Hazel's room. She is asleep.

So, I go across the hall to Frank's room. He is not in he's bed. Then, I notice the bathroom light is on. A few moments later Frank walks out. He sees me standing in his doorway.

"Sorry, Coach," he says. "I was just using the bathroom."

"It's fine, kid," I say. "Just don't do it again."

     "Don't use the bathroom again?"

     "Not during my bed checks."

"Ok?" He says, but it sounds more like a question.

I watch to make sure he gets in bed before I close his door and walk to the last two doors. Percy and Annabeth's rooms. Annabeth had requested the room closest to the stairs before The Argo II had even finished being built and I understood why. I've known Annabeth since she first came to camp, when she was seven. Even back then she always wanted to know what was going on. She hated not knowing things. She would use her hat, the one her mom gave her, to spy on Chiron, Mr. D, and other campers. She also always wanted to go on a quest and fight monsters. So, it hadn't surprised me when she asked for the room closest to the stairs, so that she could get out to the deck to fight faster.

I was about to open Percy's door when I heard something from Annabeth's room. It almost sounds like someone is crying. I turn and realize the light is on in Annabeth's room.

I walk across the hall open Annabeth's door just enough to see inside. My eyes take a second to adjust to the light, but when I can see again I see Percy sitting on Annabeth's bed holding her. She is clinging on to Percy as though he is going to disappear at any second. Percy is rocking back and forth slowly.

"You died and I was alone! You left me!" Annabeth cries.

"I know, but Annabeth it was just a dream. Ok?" Percy responses. "I'm never going to leave you. You know that right? I promise that I will never ever leave you. I really hope you know that. I love you so much."

I'm about to turn and leave when Percy looks up and sees me. He gives me a sad smile that I return before closing the door and walking away. I know Percy will take care of Annabeth. Just like Annabeth will take care of Percy.

I go back to my bed and look at the time, it's 2:08 in the morning. I get in bed and try to fall back asleep, but I can't stop thinking about how Annabeth was crying. I have known her for close to ten years and I have only seen her cry four times.

The first time was the day she first got to camp, when Thalia died. Once when she was eight and fell off the rockwall and broke her arm. When we all thought Percy was dead during the first quest she got to lead and when Hera took Percy.

There is not much that can make Annabeth Chase cry.

After a few more minutes I still can't sleep, so I decide to get my club and go upstairs and take the rest of Leo and Jason's watch. So, that they can get some sleep.

"Hey," I say to the two boys. "Go get some sleep. I'll take the rest of your watch."

     "Are you sure?" Jason asks.

     "Yeah, I can't sleep."

The boys go back downstairs. Around 3:30 I hear someone coming up the stairs. It's Percy.

"Hey," he says slowly. "I know we're supposed to stay in our rooms but,"

I cut him off, "Percy, it's ok. I get it. If Millie was crying I would want to be there for her too. You kids have been through a lot. You are about to fight in your second war and you're not even seventeen yet," I stop and think for a second. "I know that both of you have been having nightmares, so if it helps you can sleep in her room."

     He smiles, "Thanks, Coach."

"You're welcome," I say. "I'm trusting you, Jackson. No funny business. You hear me?" I say, only half joking.

He nods, "I promise. Thank you again, Coach."

"No problem, I would do it for anyone if they had been through what you two have."

We just stand there not talking for a while. Then, it's time for breakfast. We are the third ones there. Annabeth is always the first and Jason is always the second.

Annabeth smiles when she sees us walk in. Jason also looks up.

"You're up early," he says to Percy because Percy is usually the last one up.

"Yeah," Percy says. "I just wanted to get an early start to today." He goes and sits at the head of the table next to where Annabeth is sitting.

I sit down too. Soon everyone is eating, taking, and laughing. For a few minutes everything in the world feels pretty perfect. I almost forget that in a few weeks we are going to be fighting in a war.

A/N That's the OG post. I know that Coach Hedge left right after Percabeth got out of Tartarus, but I thought it was a really good headcanon and I really wanted to write a story about it. I hope you like it.
