CHAPTER 12.1
*Rose*
-flashback-
"Papa!"
"Rose, please stop crying," My mama hugged the six year old me tight and hushed me, "Don't cry okay? Papa won't be here for a long time. He just needs to, work. Mama's here, and that's enough, right?"
"But I saw him on TV mama! Mama I want Papa, too!"
TV NEWS Narrative: A total of sixty-five people died in the fire- to include the children undergoing recovery, the orphanage staff and most shocking of all, the doctors whose brilliant minds gave us hope of the cure for cancer. The National Cancer Intelligence Network(NCIN) express their grief for this is one of the most tragic news as pioneer heroes lose their lives together with their priceless research.
"Mama, I saw him again! Please make Papa come back, Mama! Tell Papa I'm waiting! I was a good girl was I?! I ate my veggies, Mama!"
"Rose listen to me!" Mama took my face and held it close to her. "Mama's going to take care of you, so please trust me, okay? You will never see Papa anymore."

"Chronic Myeloid Leukemia is not a joke. We can give her treatments but I'm afraid we'll have to keep our expectations low."
"But you were the one who told me there's a 90 percent chance of survival?!"
"Ma'am I'm sorry but please do not forget there is a 10 percent we are not certain of. And with what recently happened, we might need to open our minds to all possibilities."
I tried to reach out to Mama but I couldn't touch her back. My hand and body was too heavy. Then as if she had eyes at the back of her head, she reached for me, too.
My mom took my hand and squeezed it tight as she sat next to my bed, "We'll take anything you can offer. Please. Don't make me bury my baby!"
I saw Mama's strong face shake and tears welled her eyes. She caressed my bare head- where my long red locks used to be. I felt her hand slightly shake. She had grown very old in just a few years.
"We'll do our best." Those were the doctor's last words before she left me and Mama.
My mama thought my CML had been cured way back when I was ten. We had moved to different places in search for the best doctor because Papa never came back ever since I saw him on TV. I thought I got lucky with the last oncologist who took care of me. I thought I had conquered the big C.
And now six years after, it did its job again. Just when I thought I found my true happiness. Now, I can't even tell him the truth. I saw what my illness did to my family... to my Mama.
I don't want Franz to sink with me.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
I looked at the door and my heart fluttered. Me and Mama don't know anyone in this town. I was thinking of Franz and all of a sudden he was there? Could it be him?
And the door opened. In came a teenaged boy who looked slightly older than me. He was tall and had pale gray hair, wearing a hospital gown and was carrying a Teddy bear.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I think I... entered the wrong room." He apologized and was about to close it but I called him.
"Wait."
"Yeah?" He paused and looked at Mama who was asleep beside my bed.
"You and I have the same band. Does it mean you also have..."
"CML. Yeah. You see...I'd love to talk but... I really need to go find Elise first. She's about to go through this awful chemo phase and she really needs Buddy. My name's Hammick by the way, see you next time!"
He waived the teddy at me and closed the door.
