CHAPTER 9

*Tom*

Timeline: Months before Franz and Rose's escape...

Day 01
Normal situation noted.

Day 10
Peaceful place. Everything in order.

Day 14
One inmate went missing. Declared escapee.

Day 15
Another.

Day 16
Two more gone.

Day 25
Didn't log anything. Couldn't sleep for days. Someone seems to be watching everyone. It's a struggle to keep this up without fear of getting caught. A total of sixteen bodies-gone. Pattern 1: missing after sundown. Requesting supply of wireless bugs stat. Not safe.

Day 28
Pattern 2 noted: Missing inmates from ages 18 to 25. Assumption: missing people used for organ trade in black market or Category X medical Clinical trials. Missing people- a normal occurrence. No one bothers to find out the truth or speak it out, but are just waiting for their turn to be taken.

Day 40
Noted an object with an incredibly fast speed approx 100km/hr zoomed past our cell at around 2am. Next day, Borj from the next cell is gone.

Day 72
No disappearances since Day 40, but found button-sized electric bugs different from Haci's. Sending sample through box. Requesting for debugger tools ASAP.

Day 81
On or about 6PM, spotted one black drone. Size approx: 1 ft. Hovered on top of gardens. Too fast, gardeners were old and didn't notice. Chased drone but it landed fast and disappeared in the middle of the garden.

Day 102
Passageway at middle garden confirmed. Sending samples of chemicals found at entrance.

Tom looked at the scrolls he had written in the past three months. He had carefully checked if anyone was around snooping over his bunks in the cell. He took out an aerosol deodorant can and sprayed on the scrolls. Like magic, the parchments shrunk to one-inch sizes per piece. All the text were no longer readable. He carefully put it inside a small mint tin container and slid it in his pocket.

"The rain was strong today that all of our activities were put on hold," Tom thought, "I couldn't explain if I should be happy or I'd be annoyed by this weather. I still have Day 105-110 with me. I had set myself a deadline for them to tap the mailbox this week and that's this Saturday. Tomorrow, I mean. After which, Haci and Rielle will retrieve it for the report summary. I'm running out of time. I should deposit the messages later. After lunch. It'll be too risky and someone might catch me. But this has to reach them soon, or else."

He contemplated as he looked at the clock. Fifteen minutes past twelve noon, it read. "I've got to risk it."

Tom ran to the nearest guard post and put out his calm and modest persona. He smiled at the guard and asked if he can gather the tools left at the garden. "I know Grock can be messy sometimes but believe me he's a good guy, Sir. I'll just collect the tools left in the garden and come back. Immediately. You know me."
