CHAPTER 2.2

*Franz*

I walked slowly towards the activity area and scanned the place. My eyes fell on the petite redhead who seemed to hide part of his face in a manual. I took a random book from the closest shelf and slid beside him with ease. Our elbows met and he scooted away to give me room without even lifting his nose.

"You seem to like dogs," I casually remarked referring to his material on Pugs.

"You seem to like the doggy style," he said sarcastically, stood up and  left me and my half opened mouth. I flushed at the front cover showing two guys getting sleazy on my men's magazine. More like gay magazine. What the actual... f.

He was fast but I caught up to him in two seconds just before he got in his cell.

"What is it with you? You've been following me all day since accounting!" He retorted staring up at me.

It surprised me how he noticed and it bothered me even more.

"Well... I kind of am," I leaned on the bars, kind of trapping him between me and the cold steel.

He remained still and unchallenged before my towering height. His face was nonchalant.

"Why?"

"I'm just, curious," I said slowly, my eyes resting on his and then his mouth. An all too familiar mouth with such a longing memory trapped in a few years ago, "You look familiar. You look just like my...ex."

"I knew it! Don't you ever get close to me! I knew you were gay!" He smacked my face and finally entered his cell.

Tom, a dark skinned guy of my age and height went out. He was the cell leader.

"Don't start, Franz. You wouldn't want succeeding lock up sessions. Quit playing with the new kid. I know you aren't into men."

"Tom. I just need to talk to him."

"Is he interested?"

"...No."

"Give it another time."

Bars of steel completely blocked my entry as Tom slid them shut. "Franz, give the boy some time. You know how we all are when we were newbies."

And he disappeared into the cell.

My overwhelming curiosity was not helping me at all. Ideas run in my mind before I could even stop them.

"Everyone believed he was a boy, because of course they didn't meet her when she still had long locks and was obviously a girl." But it crossed my mind that I might have been mistaken. "Or maybe he is really a guy and a relative of Rose? Which explains why he doesn't know me?" However, another question comes up- "Why would he be jumpy and avoidant of interaction? My initial approach was a casual one, why didn't he talk politely?"

My head hurt.

Maybe I really am just imagining things.

And just when I was about to leave, I noticed a small paper inserted in the fold of my shirt pocket. I quietly unfolded the piece and carefully checked the scribbled note as I walked swiftly to my cell bed. When I was sure no one was there, I peeked at the words that became clearer as my heart skipped a beat.

"It's me. I will talk to you after one month. Please wait. Burn the message. -Rose Arrow."
