David Peterson
As soon as my big mouth spat the words out, I knew my secret was out. I WAS BUSTED! 4years! 4 fucking years and I was about to get away with it too. I thought she was different. She reminded me of me and my father. The arrogence. The disrespect towards the maids. And where was he now? Thats right. Six feet under. He was a good father. A good relative but he was a shitty person. He always said blood is thicker than water forgetting that blood is most made up of the same water he hates.
Mia is a nice girl. Well she is somewhere deep deep deep inside of her heart. I would be damned if I let her go down that route. My father was lucky he had my uncle to keep him in track with his family, when Mia gets older, she will be a shitty human being. Well, I am going to guide her, help her, hopefully she will turn her character around.
She looked at me like I had grown three heads, like something wasn't adding up. I guess she is expecting me to explain. Here goes. I guided her to her bed and sat us down hand in Hand then looked into her eyes.
"When you said today we were studying history today, it was not my history I anticipated." I laughed nervously. Her beautiful blue eyes seemingly starring deep into my soul. "My name is David, David Smith Peterson." She gusped dramatically as expected. "I am the sole heir to BB Construction (pty) Ltd East maybe West too seeing my uncle has no child. I am the child of Ben and Rebecca Peterson. Back home, I used to be just like you, Robert and the rest of your bully gang. I was the alpha because I was the richest. I had it all. The best girls, the best car, the perfect family such that I started looking down upon everyone else."
"The maids were only putting up with us because we paid them ridiculously high salaries just because we could. Well, when I was 13, I was already being trained for running the business and seeing how intelligent I am, it wasn't a problem being home schooled until I was up to speed. My mother was a wise woman. She said to take me to school in order to learn how to cooperate with people from other backgrounds but I knew she wanted to give me a choice to pursue whatever I wanted." I felt tears filling up in my eyes but I had to finish my story.
"So Four and a half years ago, my parents died. I believe it wasn't random. I believe it was an inside job because the level of security in our Mansion was incredible. I believe a lot of things but the official statement is that they died in a car accident when their car rolled down a cliff and burned to ash as soon as it stoped. That changed my whole world. For 5 months, i didn't know what had to be done. Relatives fighting for shares, for the mansion, hell some relatives I had never seen before. I was ignored. I was kicked out of my home. I had to fend for myself on the streets. I got beaten up a lot because of who I used to be. I come crushing down to Earth and thats when I learned humanity. I was used as a drug mule in order to get a meal. I worked in places that tolerated child labour just to buy a pair of cheap jeans and a low quality plain t-shirt. It was hell but it taught me a lot." I paused for air to avoid crying
"When God was sure I had learned my lesson, He ended my suffering. I was sleeping in my usual spot under a bridge one winter night, shivering, humming a song my mother used to sing for me when I was scared and I made a vow never to let anyone whom I can help suffer. Thats is why I lost my temper in the kitchen. Thats why I cannot entertain the thought of you going down the same route I did because what goes up, my come down and if you treat people like shit, who will offer you a helping hand when you fall?" I couldn't hold it anymore. I felt a warm liquid flowing down my cheeks. I had not narrated this story to anyone before and it felt like I had opened old wounds, but it was a small price to pay for trying to steer Mia's life in the right direction. She was also in tears now, making me feel kind of bad. I reached over to wipe away her tear and she did the same with mine. I smiled reassuringly and finished my story.
"The morning of that night, the was a heavy snow fall, i was pretty sure I was going to die and it was a better fate than what I had going for me. I remember closing my eyes, succuming to my fate when like an angel I heard Uncle Blake's voice." I smiled at the memory "Dave! Dave!" I whisper yelled mimicing his voice for dramatic effect. "When our eyes met, I saw for the first time in my life, a fully grown African man crying like a child. He hugged my now skinny frame. He made sure I spent two weeks in a hospital, being attatched to drips to give me the right amount of every thing the body needs. Turns out I now had athritis. Not severe though. After I was treated, my Uncle did not hesitate using every resource he had to make sure Justice against my greedy relatives was served, i got my company back, which is currently under his eye, and moved me here to start afresh because back home, i couldn't face anyone anymore. The fake friends, the school, i hated it all, it depressed me. Fast forward, I embraced being a nerd, I allow myself to be bullied because it helped with the emotional pain no therapist could fix and I changed my Identity all together to keep under the rador of the people who killed my parents." I concluded. I felt like an elephant was removed from my shoulders. What do you know? Those therapists were right.
I looked into her eyes and for the first time since I met her, she seemed vulnerable and that is when I knew it, I knew that I was willing to do whatever it takes to protect her
I got lost in her eyes, I didn't realise we were now so close until I felt her lips crush against mine. I didn't hesitate, I just rolled with it and it felt just sooo, right.
