At Dusk

"It can't be, but maybe it can, how old are you?" Rose asks me.

"I'm seventeen," I answer, "Rose what's going on?"

"I have to make a phone call," She blurts out, "I promise I will explain everything when I get back."

I go to ask her to explain now as she walks off but a doctor approaches us.

"Are you guys with Weston?" The doctor asks walking over to us and we nod yes, "Well he is stable and should make a full recovery."

"Can we see him?" I inquire.

"Not at the moment, he's still asleep, I think you should go and get some rest and a dry pair of clothes and come back later," The doctor suggests walking away.

We stand there for a moment chatting to each other about Weston and everything else that is going on in our insane lives.

"Okay we need to go now," Rose announces walking back over to us and she brings us out to the car.

"What's going on, Rose?" I question as we get in the car and start driving.

"Eighteen years ago it was revealed that the Chancellor's wife was pregnant with his best friend's baby. It was a huge scandal. When the baby was born, she was given a one of a kind necklace and she was sent to live in Saint Laclade where she wouldn't hear about any of it while she grew up. Cameron, you are that baby," Rose reveals as we pull up outside the tallest building in the city.

It feels as if my heart stops and I freeze up. My whole world comes crashing down around me. Everything I have ever been told isn't true. I have no idea what to say or think. I just sit there not saying a thing looking like a deer in headlights.

"I think you have the wrong person, it can't be me, it can't, can it?" I finally say.

"It's definitely you," Rose tells me as we get out of the car, "You look just like your mother, I just don't know how it took me so long to realize it was you."

"Hold on, slow down," I exclaim as we walk into the building.

"Your mother is Leilani Mahoe, she is married to your stepfather Kalani Mahoe, but your father is Kaleo. Kaleo and Kalani used to be best friends. They were friends from birth and they met your mother when they were sixteen. They both instantly fell in love with your mother, they always tried to impress her doing outrageous things. She fell for both of them but ended up marrying Kalani for her parents as they wanted her to marry rich and Kalani was better off than Kaleo. Even though she didn't pick Kaleo he always stayed around trying to be the best friend he could. Leilani's feelings for Kaleo grew more and more every day and then you happened. Kalani was furious when he found out that his wife was pregnant with a different man's baby and couldn't believe that his own friend could do that to him. When the news broke Kaleo took off visiting other towns to stay out of the way. Leilani and Kalani worked it out over her pregnancy but decided it was best for you if you didn't grow up surrounded by the news of the scandal so they sent you away and Kalani eventually forgave Kaleo. You are going to meet them in an hour so we have to get you guys ready," Rose informs me and my head begins to spin from all the information.

So many thoughts rush through my head as Rose pushes the button for the elevator. I feel like I am going to be sick. Dylan takes my hand and squeezes it calming me down a bit as we step into the glass elevator. We head all the way to the top floor and we step out into a huge apartment. There are so many people rushing around yelling different things and it's very overwhelming.

"What's going on?" I ask as people push past us the further we walk into the apartment.

"All of this is for you Cameron. People have been waiting for this day for years, waiting for you," Rose tells me.
