Looking at Dave as he asked me that, I felt the old memories suppressing me.

It stung but I kept it in.

"Yah. One time."

"Well your beautiful and I'm telling you this because I've only know you for about 20 hours but I like you a lot," he said so quickly I barely understood.

"Wait wait please slow down. It's hard to understand when talking so fast," I said with my Greek accent.

Dave smirked a little and said that I was beautiful.

I grinned and told him that he was beautiful too!

He just looked at me weirdly and laughed.

"I'm not bea~" he was suddenly cut off by the intercom.
"Flight 33 to South Carolina will be landing in 4 minutes. Please buckled your seat belts, pull your tray tables up, and push your chairs forward please. Flight attendants with be coming by shortly to pick up any trash you have. Thank you."

"We're almost there!" I cried, looking out the window.

Dave smiled at me and looked out the window too.

"Is this your first time coming to America?"

"Yah, can you tell?" I smiled at him.

"Yah, I can tell by how excited you are," he laughed and beamed at me.

Well I couldn't help my excitement. I was going to a new world that I've never been to. It's probably very different from Greece.

Suddenly a wave of sadness came over me. I looked out the window and thought about my parents. I really need them. I mean I can take care of my self but there my parents. I love them.

I look over at Dave. I start thinking. Maybe, since he's my only friend, that I can tell him about me.

"Hey Da~" But I was suddenly cut off by the intercom saying we have landed in South Carolina.

So much for telling him now.

After me and Dave got our bags, we walked together through the airport.

I learned that Dave's parents were here to pick him up.

I wish my parent were here with me..

Nevermind that now. I have to figure out a way to get the house. It would be needy to ask Dave, so I'd need to think of something else.

"Hey who's picking you up?" Dave asked.

"Oh no one. I don't know anyone in America," I replied sadly.

"We'll do you need a ride? It wouldn't be a problem!"

"Well if it's okay with your parents?"

"Of course! Come on!" He pulled me to his parents car and suddenly we were off from the airport.

I gave Dave's parents the address to the house and we quickly arrived 20 minutes later.

I learned that Dave lived close by, just a walk up the street.

"Alena, who are you living with?" Dave's mom, Mary, asked me as we pulled in the the drive way.

"No one. I'm living by myself," I replied quickly.

"Where are you parents? You look 17, how can you live alone?" She bombarded me with questions. I lied and told her they were back in Greece and sent me here to learn more about American culture.

I don't mind lying about my parents because I don't want pity and I don't want people to know.

I got out of the car, taking my bags and said thank you to Mary and John. I hugged Dave and smiled at him. I told him anytime he wanted to, he could come over, just walk up the street ur ill I could get a cellphone.

I looked at this enormous house and walked inside. There was new furniture and utilities for the kitchen. There was no food in the pantries or fridge so I would have to go grocery shopping.

Sooner or later I would have to get a job because I know this money will run out.

I walked up to the bedrooms, having to walk up the long staircase. I looked at the biggest room that was going to be meant for my parents. I say my bag down and climbed into the bed.

I sighed as I thought about my parents and my new life here. I'm going to make the best of it for them. I promise I'll try and make a good life here.

I love you mama, papa.
