It was the crack, that small crack that she hated. She wanted to be strong, be though, show him it didn't hurt. But it's the small crack in her voice as the feelings flood out of her mouth and her tears cascade from her eyes that make her feel so weak.

He leaps and shoves his claws into her throat, making her silent as he screams at her, as he flings her flaws at her. Sometimes it feels like he puts her in front of a mirror and strips her naked as he criticizes her, everything about her.

He says he loves her yet shows no mercy as he rips her voice out, as he throws words at her that hit her heart. He loves her, yet shows her the weaknesses inside her. Even after everything she has done for him, it's never enough.

And once the anger in his eyes subsided, once his voice grows calm, and his words don't sting like swords in her gut, he says he's sorry.

But the claws remain, and the mirror never leaves, as she feels stripped naked, her flaws written on her skin. She will always remain silent, never to sing again as his words become tumors in her lungs.

Her precious voice, ripped from her, as was her dignity and confidence.
