"But I know you from somewhere." he pressed. You sighed, rolling your shoulders as you crossed your arms and turned to him. "We work in the same place, Raiden. If you didn't know me, I'd be a little disappointed."
He let out a small but unamused laugh. "I bet."
You had known him. Hell, you loved him. When you saw the state he was in, you could barely stand. He was missing an arm, eye sliced out of its socket. Doktor insisted you help, but you didn't trust anybody to fix him but yourself.
Now he doesn't remember you.
But you certainly remember him.
You waved your arms in dismissal, pushing past Raiden and he laughed deeply. Your heart ached at that sound, and you almost froze in your steps but the pain made you press on. You could feel his cold metal hand grab your wrist, squeezing lightly as he tried to pull you back. "Come on, (y/n)."
He said it. He said your name. The way he said it shattered you because he still spoke in the same tone he used when he told you he loved you. When he came to your house in the middle of the night soaking wet with rain and he cried out to you that Rose wanted a divorce because she was seeing different people. She thought he was unfaithful. How he told you he didn't fight her because he found himself doing the same thing. Right before he kissed you and broke down in your arms. It was the first time his cold and hard shell broke in front of you. In front of anybody.
Now, years later, he didn't remember a damn thing about you. His body was destroyed and replaced almost completely by metal. You couldn't touch him anymore. You couldn't feel him. With his other body, you could at least feel certain parts of him and it would feel enough like skin if you closed your eyes. Now, he was just metal. Even on his jaw and his lip.
Tears were pooling in your eyes at the memories and Raiden knew something was wrong. He just wanted to know what it was.
"Let go of me, Raiden." It was all you could muster and your voice cracked, but he didn't budge.
"I know I did something wrong, just-"
"Raiden..." You kept trying to pull away but he wasn't letting up.
"Just tell me!"
"God damn it Jack, let go of me!" You ripped your arm away, whimpering a bit as his metal nails scraped against your skin and you took off down the opposite direction of the hallway as he was left stunned by your words.
Jack?
It sounded too familiar, and you said it as if you had spoken the name thousands of times. The hurt was evident in your voice and Raiden was trying not to stay still.
Then it clicked, and he told off down the direction you had gone in. He almost ran into Boris and the older man chuckled heartily. "What's got you in such a rush, Raiden?" The said male ignored him, trying his best to find you and he stopped in a hallway to listen for you, scanning the area.
He heard your hissing as you cleaned your scratch and he took off in that direction with gentle steps. He opened the bathroom door softly and you flinched, not even looking at him. "Go away, Raiden..."
He stepped right behind you and your eyes caught his soulful brown one in the mirror. "My name's Jack, not Raiden." You stopped and turned to him, about to deny it but he tripped your face and gently kissed you. You tensed up and he almost immediately pulled away. "I remember..." He said quickly. "They tried taking it all away, make me forget so I had a reason to fight."
You looked at him shocked and nodded. "I-I know..." Your hand was gently placed on top of his that was cupping your jaw and he kissed you again. This time it took you a long moment but you melted into him. You finally had Jack back, and it felt weird because most of him was not skin and muscle, but it was still Jack.
You were grateful for that.
He pulled away and hugged you tightly. You took the opportunity to curl into his chest and just be with him. How much you had missed this...
