Katniss's hands are shaking everyone awake, but I'm already sitting upright. The arena is a clock. Each of the twelve sectors surrounding the Cornucopia separated by the spokes each containing a different horror. From Finnick's stories I couldn't help but overhear him whispering to Johanna, the first four hours on the clock are lightning, blood rain, poisonous fog, and mutt monkeys. The other seven are unknown, yet I know that Katniss and Wiress's realization has to be correct.

"Get up. Get up—we have to move," she commands. Then, she looks at me as she shakes Johanna. "We're too close to the fog."

I nod, despite my longing just to pass out into a long, uninterrupted sleep. Finnick stirs beside me, and I press a little kiss to his cheek. His eyes open drowsily, but after he observes Katniss's frantic actions, he's up on his feet. As Katniss explains the clock theory, Finnick and I slip Beetee back into his jumpsuit. I put back on my undergarments beneath my suit.

Johanna doesn't seem convinced by it all, but anything that Katniss says has her resentful in the first place. We gather all our things and roll up the few weaved bedrolls from the ground. Another hour has passed without a salve for my leg. Every so often, I peek under the moss to feel my hot skin and puss-leaking wound. I change it silently, trying not to throw up in my mouth from the sight of it and the terrible headache, but Finnick seems to notice nevertheless.

Katniss speaks to Wiress soothingly as she dresses her and I eavesdrop in the middle of their conversation. "Exactly. One-thirty. And at two, a terrible poisonous fog begins there." She gestures to the jungle a few feet away. "So we have to move somewhere safe now. Are you thirsty?"

Water, I'd completely forgot about the cooling sensation of fresh, salt-free water. I flick my eyes over to them, my mouth suddenly becoming even drier. "You have water?"

Katniss gives me a quick glance. "Yeah, we got a spool from a sponsor. The water is in the trees, like sap."

How hadn't I thought of that? Instead, I relied on the rain and got a mouthful of blood. Wiress grabs the woven bowl first and drinks about half of it before passing it to me. The liquid slips down my throat, easing away an edge of my headache and energizing me again. Finnick gives us each a piece of bread, which I devour within seconds.
