Luna went to the bakery the next morning for another boring day at work. Her first shift was behind the counter serving the customers, seeing some familiar faces and a couple of new ones.
"Luna!" Her boss called from the inside. "We're out of ingredients. Would you mind buying some more eggs?"
"Sure thing." Luna went inside and her boss handed the money needed to buy the eggs. She left the bakery and took the usual route to where the bakery always gets their supplies from. She greeted the shopkeeper and asked for the eggs.
"Demons! We're under attack!"
Everyone's attention was diverted. None of them could believe what they're witnessing. A troop of angels were being chased by what seemed to be a horde of demons that came from outside of town. They were running in horror. Some were injured, some had their limbs, or wings gone.
Luna's heart pumped fear through her bloodstream. Her worst nightmare had come to life. Just like everyone, she started running away from the demons with her sights set forward. A loud crash came from the front of the running mass and a quadrupedal demon came bursting from one of the buildings. A couple of screams were heard, but everyone kept running. A squad of angels came from the opposite direction and started firing at the demons, but they were simply outnumbered and killed within a matter of seconds.
Luna kept running until she tripped on something and fell on her stomach. She must've fallen on something sharp because she felt something penetrated her skin and sunk itself into her flesh. Although it hurts, she managed to force herself up. She didn't bother to look at what she fell on, she just continued running with a hand covering her wounded abdomen.
The people ran until they were out of the walls. Luna looked around to search for the girls living under the roof of the orphanage calling out their names, but to no avail. Either there were simply too many people that she didn't manage to find them, or they were a victim of the battle. Everyone, including Luna kept going, even though she didn't know where they were exactly headed. She just thought that it would be better to go stick to the group. She examined her wound again and realized that it was still untreated. She went around asking for help, but everyone was too busy tending for themselves. She found a dead body and tore off part of it's clothing to use as a bandage and patched herself up.
As they went on, Luna could feel her head starting to get heavier. She looked down on her abdomen and the entire piece of cloth had already turned red with blood. In the distance, she could see tiny balls of light before her vision got blurry, then slowly it faded to black.

And she fainted. Don't worry, she's not dead yet. Here's a hint: there will be a plot twist in the next chapter so stay tuned.
