Chapter 9 - MULTI-COLOURED ORB

It's been two days since the day at the waterfall, today is my first day meeting with the Elder, I've already been told that today was mostly going to be about testing my powers and seeing how much control I have over them. I pace anxiously waiting for them to arrive.

I haven't actually used my powers since my birthday, mostly because I don't understand how to and this is my opportunity to learn. I'm both scared and excited, it's hard to describe the feeling that goes through me when I feel my powers, it's exhilarating, almost addictive and that's part of what scares me, the other part being my destiny.

I hear a knock at the door, interrupting my train of thought, I open it and I'm surprised to see a woman no older than her mid-thirties jeans and a t-shirt. She smiles warmly at me and I smile back as I step to the side and let her in. "Are you the Elder?" Let's just say that I was expecting someone double her age maybe in a floor length robe. I laugh to myself at my expectations.

"Hello Charlotte, thank you for coming," my mum greets her as she comes downstairs, my dad took the twins out so that we could focus without interruptions. She returns the greeting and they share a small hug indicating that they know each other. They exchange small pleasantries before Charlotte turns to me with a smile.

"Yes my dear, I am one of the elder but Charlotte will do. I must confess, when I heard that there was an elemental who had been gifted with control over all four of the elements and was only eighteen I could hardly believe it but now here, in your presence, I can feel the power radiating off of you." We walk towards the living room and take a seat on the couch. She leads me through a few basic breathing exercises that she says will help if I start to feel overwhelmed. "Now I need you to close your eyes, take a deep breath and find the source of your power, search deep within yourself."

I do what she asks and close my eyes, after taking a deep breathe I search myself and am surprised when I find a bright multi-coloured orb of light bursting with power, I find myself reaching out to it in my mind, I gasp and open my eyes as a shiver runs through my body. I'm shocked as my mother and Charlotte take in sharp breaths an even more so when I notice shimmering colours around them. "Your eyes Mija," mum states.

I walk to the mirror hanging on the wall across the room and look in fascination as my violet eyes are glowing, I also see colours around myself, the same swirls of violet, light blue, soft green and a few other colours as the source of my power to touch it but feel nothing. I turn back to the others, "it's beautiful, I wonder if your colours match your orbs." They look at me confused.

"Our colours?" Charlotte asks, "do you mean that you can see colours around us?" She asks amazed. I nod and study them further, slowly I start to feel drained, as if I'd just ran a marathon, I withdraw from the orb and stop using my power hoping that I'd feel more energised. I blink a few times noticing that I can no longer see the colours surrounding mum or Charlotte.

"I feel a little drained but the best way I can describe it is what I'd imagined an aura to look like," I turn to Charlotte, "your colours were swirls of light blue and a fiery red with a little white inside," then I turn to my mum, "mum, your colours were a lightening kind of blue mixed with a lilac and with white and a small amount of green. It's a little strange but very interesting," I say mostly to myself.

"This is very promising, there are only three recorded accounts of elementals who could see auras around people and it took them a few years to learn it. When you look at elementals you see the colours in their orb, unfortunately I've never been informed on what the auras of the other species of the supernatural world look like but I expect it to be a learning experience for you." I smile as even this is progress. "At first it will be a little draining until you are used to using your power, one trick is that you can take strength from the natural elements, not all of your strength needs to come from within, that is just the spark that ignites it, if you concentrate you will see that the elements will lend you strength when you need it, especially water, it's traditionally the most calming and healing of the elements which is why most of our doctors wield water." I nod as I take in all this new information.

"So what do I learn first? Does it matter which element I learn first or is there a specific order?" I asked, there were so many questions running through my mind but those were the most important.

"Despite what many think there is no specific order that we all follow because no one has ever had the ability to control all four elements, the best thing to do is to follow the order that you received them on your birthday." I thought back to my birthday party, it's crazy to think that that was in fact only a few days ago instead of a few weeks. The difference has had a massive impact on me and how I now view the world, a week ago I could never have fathomed the existence of elementals or werewolves, witches or vampires, it's all been bizarre and I'm surprised I've handled it all so well.

"The order was water, fire, air and then earth I think, though before this I had protected myself with air and manipulated water unintentionally." I say, adding the last part just in case it affected anything. I'm quite excited to learn how to control my powers, when I felt them surge for the first time I felt amazing, after getting over the feeling of being overwhelmed of course, but I know that everything happened as it should have.

"The first two outbursts are not relevant to the order that you learn the elements because any of them could surfaced, air was the most convenient to protect you which I gathered from your mother when we first spoke and water was just a coincidence." She smiled at me kindly and I knew that she was trustworthy, though I didn't completely understand why. "There's also the matter of hand-to-hand combat training, Miranda tells me that you trained in quite a few over the years but gave it up about two years ago. It's essential that you pick up your training as you can't always rely on your powers, I know it's a lot my dear but if El Chupa learns of your existence, he will attack now whilst you are unable to control your powers."

"This is also why we haven't made your existence public knowledge throughout the supernatural community, we can't risk anyone letting him know your identity, which is why only four out of the twelve elders of the elementals know your identity, the other eight know there is a young powerful elemental but have agreed to stay ignorant to your identity and even your gender and age to protect you." My mother adds on. I'm shocked to hear that and I stay silent for a few minutes digesting this new information, the weight of everything is slowly hitting me that there is a man who wants to kill me for no reason other than a gifts I was born with.

The doorbell rings and I start to feel overwhelmed as my mum goes to answer it, the weight of the situation felt as if it were crushing me, an invisible hand around my throat, maybe that's why I dreamt up my nightmare, because deep down I knew I was destined to die soon.

I'm going to die.

It was a fact everyone realised sooner or later but I guess for me the only option was soon. I was terrified of the thought that any day soon I could die, that El Chupa could find me while I was untrained and vulnerable and I would die.

Suddenly a pair of warm arms wrapped around me and I was pulled into a warm embrace, the small sparks told me it was Tyler and I felt myself press into him and accept his comfort. "It's okay Nevaeh, I've got you, I won't let anything bad happen to you, I promise." He continued talking to me and slowly I felt myself calm down in his presence and used the strength he offered me to release myself from the invisible hand that had been holding me down.

"You're mated to a werewolf? And an Alpha? Intriguing, I've never seen them mate with anyone outside their own species and the rare human." She says almost to herself, I look at her confused as to how she guessed so quickly, it must have been on my face because she carried on, "I knew he was a werewolf from when he entered and his height and powerful presence told me he's an Alpha but the way he went to you and calmed you down as quickly as he did suggested that you two share a mate bond, I've only ever seen wolves react the way he has to their mates. I will of course keep this to myself since you have not publically announced it yourself." She said with a genuine smile, on of those ones where it's hard not to smile back which is easier now that I had calmed down. "I think we should pick up tomorrow since I want you to be able to go at your own pace and we can start with controlling water and since both your mother and I control water she can help you in your spare time."

I smiled, glad that she did not force me to continue and that I could have some time with Tyler to think about everything that was going to happen, and maybe ask him to help me train since I know that even though I quit he still trains three to four times a week.

We said our goodbyes to Charlotte and went upstairs to talk about what just happened.
