"ARE YOU STARING AT PARKER AGAIN?"
Alissa jumped at the voice, eyes swiveling to the dark skinned girl who was standing beside her locker across the hall from Alissa. With Peter becoming a rare sight outside of school, she was beginning to stare at him more often than ever before, trying to preserve him in her mind somehow. He still texted her from time to time, and their other friends, but it just wasn't the same. There was something else going on, but Alissa seemed to be the only one to really notice the sudden change.
Everyone else simply brushed it off as him trying to cope with Ben's death while still focusing on school and helping his aunt pay the bills that were piling up, and Alissa had originally thought that, too, but, there were times that she questioned if there was just maybe something else bothering the boy who was beginning to hold one too many secrets. Though, as she thought on it more, it seemed even silly to even think such a thing.
People coped in different ways, and maybe this was his way, and so she had no reason to question it unless it grew.
Peter wasn't a good secret keeper, either, and if he was even harboring some kind of secret that not even one of his best friends could know, he would spill it out sooner or later; on purpose or accidentally. Or, Alissa would find a way to figure it out if not, just like how two of her best friends were raking their brains together to conjure up a magnificent plan to figure out Spider-Man's true identity as the hero continued to thrive and stop crime night by night in the friendly neighborhoods.
"Uh, yes," Alissa sheepishly admitted to the girl, letting out a little laugh and closing her locker, leaning against the metal row. Michelle Jones was the girls name. Her curly hair was always frizzy and pulled back from her face in a loose ponytail while a stack of books where always placed beside her, her weekly reading between her slender fingers in every one of her classes. She was rather quiet; the only time Alissa heard her voice was if her name was called upon by a teacher, or if she was teasing Peter and Ned at lunch— even then, Alissa didn't hear much from the mysterious girl. "Is it that obvious?"
Michelle shifted the books in her arms, pursing her lips together. Her eyes swiveled towards Peter who was at the other end of the hall by his opened locker, talking to a very angry looking Sally Avril. Peter's hair was gelled back, his brown eyes a little more dark than usual as he stared at the pudgy girl in front of him. "To everyone, yes," Michelle causally replied, turning to walk the other way with a very timid smile playing on her lips. "But to him, it's not."
Alissa let out a little laugh at the girls response, looking from Michelle and back to Peter. His brows were furrowed together more, head tilted and eyes narrowed. Sally's hands were moving at her side quite frantically, putting an emphasis on each harsh word she spoke. Alissa bit her lip, turning to face Michelle only to find that the girl was gone, headed to her next class with only a plan to finish her book. Alissa glanced back to Peter, shoulders peeking up as he headed her way.
