-"Here, hold my morals. I've got some sketchy shit to take care of"-

5 weeks later. New York.

They got back to New York 5 weeks ago. Her wounds were still healing and they didn't want her to fight especially Luca. Luca was persistent and anyone else would have listened to the second most dangerous person in the world but not Midnight since she was tied with him for that position.

And she was just as stubborn as him, if not more so.

For some reason, he had a bad feeling about tonight. Like his gut was nagging at him to keep her by his side and never let her go. Shouting at him to keep her in his arms and hold her close so nothing could harm her.

"Be careful," he frowned as he looked down at her with his frame towering over hers. They were in her private office at the arena, and he was with her as she got ready.

"Always," she responded, tying her shoes. His stormy eyes struck with thunder as the pit in his stomach got deeper. She adjusted the chains and medallions on her neck before she walked up to him.

"I have a bad feeling about tonight," he told her as he grabbed her cold bare waist and pulled her close to his muscular body making her skin tingle with the familiar butterflies.

"I will be fine. It'll be over in a few minutes anyway," she reassured. He clenched his jaw in protectiveness. He never liked it when she fought, but something was telling him to stop her now more than ever.

At first, he thought it was because they were together now and closer than before, but the more he waited the more he realized that wasn't the reason.

Well, maybe it was...just a little...

"Don't fight. I'll take your place," he suggested, the storm in his eyes brewing faster. He knew he could fight just as well as Midnight and finish the fight in the same amount of time.

He was the best fighter and the most ruthless man anyone had ever seen. If it wasn't for the King, he would be the reason why people didn't go out after dark.

"You are not fighting," she deadpanned. He rolled his eyes and tightened his grip on her small waist.

She wouldn't forgive herself if he got hurt because of her bad habits. She knew that he wouldn't get hurt if he fought, but she didn't want to take the chance.

"Then cancel it," he retorted. She took a deep breath and put her hands on his sculpted biceps.

"This fight will be no different than the other ones. It'll be okay," she consoled. He opened his mouth to argue, not believing her.

Normally she wouldn't comfort someone like this but he was different. He was changing her faster than she could keep up with.

"Diavola-" he started before she cut him off with her soft plump lips. He kissed back instantly, savoring the taste of her vanilla lips. Their lips moved with perfect rhythm with each other, and he couldn't get enough.

She pulled away slowly, missing his lips on hers immediately.

"I'll be fine," she smiled a smile that didn't reach her eyes or create the adorable dimples he loved so much.

He scowled in protest, but she was already walking away.

He grumpily walked up to the private observatory room to watch the fight with everyone else. His signature scowl was plastered on his face as he opened the doors. Ida, Matteo, Starr, Antonio, Oscar, and Blade sat on the velvet chairs making small talk.

They noticed he was in a sour mood and didn't talk anymore, but Midnight walked in on cue.

She motioned for the first prisoner to be released, and the guards pushed him in.

The arena was emptier than usual. Only about fifteen people were behind the netting. Luca and Blade could tell something was off but didn't pay much attention to it.

Luca stood up in front of the tinted glass instead of sitting like the others. He was flooded with anticipation and worry, and couldn't wait for this to be over and take her out to dinner as they had planned.

As soon as she let go of the lifeless body in her hands, the sound of gunfire rang in the air.

They all stood up and went to open the door and see what was going on but the door was locked. Weapons were strictly banned and whoever brought them would receive a punishment of the highest degree.

"Why the fuck is the door locked?!" Starr cursed as she pulled on the handle with more force.

Since the door was locked they looked back to see that the guards were now bleeding out on the floor, dead.

Suddenly, an army of people knocked down the doors into the arena and pulled out weapons of all sorts, including guns and knives. They all charged at Midnight with the rest of the criminals that were supposed to be behind the netting.

Luca felt as if he forgot how to breathe as his blood ran cold. They frantically tried to open the door with all their faces showing horror and panic.

Another bullet sounded in the air, and the glass that was the only way that they could see what was going on was shattered, distorting their view of what was going down below. The cracking glass was enough to make their eyes warp what was going on and proved useless.

They were blind.
