John's POV:

I wake up with one of the worst headaches of my life. I groan, reaching towards my bedside table and finding the pills Laf left there. I put them in my mouth, washing them down with the whole glass of water, before pulling the covers back up over my head and promptly falling straight back to sleep.

"RISE AND SHINE MOTHERFUCKER!" Laf screams at the top of their lungs, throwing the curtains open and letting sunlight stream into the room. I let out a loud groan, despite my headache having faded somewhat.

"Fuck you," I murmur into my pillow. Then my duvet is yanked off of me.

"Come on John, we have to go to breakfast." Oh right. Breakfast. No thanks.

"I don't feel well, I'm not going."

"Yes you are, you skipped lunch and dinner yesterday, you're not skipping breakfast too." Laf stands over me, arms folded, already dressed.

"Can't you let me wallow in self-pity in peace?"

"Nope! Come on, I already got your clothes out, now hurry up and shower, you smell."

"No!" I whine. I know I'm acting like a child, but I'm too hungover to care.

"Come on!" They grab me by the ankle and drag me from my bed and onto the floor. "You're out of bed now. You've made it this far." I stand and brush myself off, shooting them my best death glare.

"I hate you."

"Love you too!" They call in a singsong voice as I make my way into the bathroom. Roommates suck.

I feel slightly better after a shower and putting on fresh robes, but I'd never admit that to Laf. They bound up to me the second I step out of the bathroom grabbing me by the hand.

"Come on, Herc and Alex are joining us for breakfast, I know you can't wait to see him again." Alex. Right.

"I'm hungover Laf, I don't want him to see me like this!"

"Oh, shut up will you. Just talk to him. You don't have to admit that you think he's hot, just make conversation like normal people."

"I'm not 'normal people'!"

"Then pretend to be!"

We burst into the great hall and find out seats at the Gryffindor table. Herc and Alex start making their way over straight away and Jesus Christ how does Alex look this good this early? Magic. I can change my appearance at will, and I can't even look that good first thing in the morning, whether I'm hungover or not. Alex sits next to me while Herc sits beside Laf, pulling them into their side, and they rest their head on his shoulder. I give Alex a strained smile.

"Morning," I say, with zero cheer because honestly FUCK mornings.

"Good morning, you sleep okay?" Alex says brightly. H O W? Clearly, Alex is a morning person. Or he's had a lot of coffee. I suspect the latter.

"Yeah, not bad," after a couple of shots of vodka, "you?"

"Yeah, I like it here, but the Slytherin dormitory is pretty dark. I don't understand why they had to put it under the lake."
