"Alex! Hurry up, we have to leave in ten minutes!" Jc yells at me from downstairs.
I'm currently straightening my hair in my bathroom. "I'll be down in a minute!"
Sam pops his head in the bathroom. "Morning beautiful."
I feel the blush rise on my cheeks. I set down the flat iron I was currently using on my hair and turn to him. "Morning. Where did you disappear to this morning?"
Last night, I had changed and climbed into bed, then Sam joined me. We stayed up for a while talking. It was nice. Just spending some genuine time together. We eventually fell asleep, but this morning Sam wasn't there when I woke up.
"Getting coffee," Sam says, walking through the door and handing me a cup of Starbucks. Dang. Don't I have the best boyfriend ever? "And I picked up Connor. He's downstairs with all of his stuff. We're splitting two ubers. The girls are meeting is at the airport, and we're all catching the same flight to Florida."
I take a sip of my coffee, set it on the bathroom counter, and said, "You could've given me a kiss before explaining all of that ya know?" Sam chuckles. "I'm serious! All I wanted was a little kiss, but you had to launch into the details of the trip that I would eventually find out anyways."
"Impatient much?"
"No! I'm just say-" Sam interrupts me by pressing his lips to mine. His hands go around my waist, and my hands slide around his neck. He kiss is soft and sweet. I feel him lick my lower lip, but I pull back.
Sam pouts. "What was that for?"
"I have to finish getting ready." I say, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before going back to doing my hair. When I finish up the last of my hair, I start putting on s little bit of makeup. Not a lot, just a little. Andrea, Jenn, Lauren, and Arden gave me some after the makeover.
Sam, who is currently standing in the doorway of the bathroom crinkles his nose. "Makeup?"
I shrug. "Just a little. It's not like I'm caking it on."
"But you don't need it either way." He argues.
I raise my eyebrows. "Maybe not, but I want to put some on. What's the big deal?"
Sam stares at me, shakes his head, and shrugs. "It's not a big deal. I was just saying you don't need it."
"Ugh, Sam."
I finish the final touches on my makeup and out it in my bag. Then I turn to Sam, who has a big smile plastered on his face.
"What?" I ask. "Did I mess something up?"
Instead of answering me, Sam presses his lips to mine. This time, there's no pulling back. I know we have to hurry so we don't miss the flight, but damn. I'm lost in Sam's world. And this time, when he licks my lip, asking for entrance, I let him in. His hands slide down my back and then he lifts me up onto the counter. My hands entangle themselves in his hair. Our tongues move slowly together, exploring each other's mouths. In my head, I'm damming Sam. Why does he do this to me? Oh, God. But I love him. I think. I don't know. Do I? Maybe. I guess that's something I have to figure out.
Suddenly, I head a scream. "Guys!" Trevor yells. "They're making out! Swapping saliva! Whatever you wanna call it! Ewww!"
This time, Sam pulls back. "Hey, Trevor! Remind me to tell you when you're kissing a girl how disgusting you once thought it was."
Me and Sam laugh. Then there is a parade of guys rushing into my room. Connor, Kian, and Ricky are all yelling and being ridiculously loud.
"I told you that's what they were doing!"
"Trevor, you owe me twenty dollars!"
"Salex is real! Bitches back off!"
"Why is Alex on the counter? How heated was it gonna get?"
I shake my head. "Well, good morning to you guys too." I hop off the counter, grab the bag I'm taking with me on the plane, and give Sam quick kiss. Then I say, "I'm going downstairs."
As I'm leaving my room, I hear the guys teasing Sam. All I can do is shake my head and chuckle. Guys. What are you gonna do about them?
I'm halfway down the stairs when I hear Jc talking. I know he's not talking to the guys cause they're all upstairs.
"Babe, don't say that," Jc says. "She'll love you."
By this point, I've reached the bottom of the stairs. Jc's back is facing me, but I can see that he's on the phone.
"No, she doesn't know about you yet. I was gonna talk to her on the plane and then before any of the events you two can spend some time together." He says. The person on the other line says something. "No, this doesn't make you a mother or anything. You're just her adopted dad's girlfriend."
My eyes widen at that. I mean, I had figured before that it was a girlfriend or something since he referred to her as "babe", but it's still a shocker. Jc has a girlfriend? And he hasn't told me? Oh, he's in for it.
"Okay." He says, wrapping up the conversation. "I love you. See you in Florida. Bye."
He hangs up the phone and puts it in his pocket. As he turns around, I fold my arms and say, "Who was that?"
Jc jumps. "God, Alex. You scared me! How much did you hear?"
"What does that matter?" I ask, slightly amused by his reaction. "Who was it?"
Jc sighs. "That was Lia. She's a friend of mine."
I shake my head. "Jc, both of us know she's more than that."
"Fine. She's my girlfriend."
"Why didn't you tell me you had a girlfriend sooner? And more importantly: why haven't you introduced us?"
Jc shrugs. "I wanted to give you time to adjust to the guys before you met Lia."
I nod and hug him. "Alright. But I'm definitely going to meet her on this trip, right?"
"Right," he promises, pulling back and ruffling my hair. Then there's a knock on the door. "That'll be the ubers. Guys! It's time to go!"
With that, the rest of the guys come running downstairs, and we walk out of the door.
"Sam, Kian, and Trevor in one car. Me, Connor, Ricky, and Alex in the other." Jc tells us.
"Thank god! They're in different cars!" Trevor yells. He's referring to me and Sam, I assume.
"Wouldn't be too excited there Trev." I tease. "I could always make a surprise appearance in your uber."
Trevor looks horrified at that thought. I guess what he walked in on scarred him. Oh, well. He'll get over it.
As everyone is getting in the cars, Sam gives me a hug and a quick kiss. His lips meet mine, but they're gone too soon.
"I'll see you at the airport." He says, heading to his uber.
"See ya at the airport." I respond.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thirty minutes later, our ubers pull in front of the airport. As everyone piles out, Connor and Jc pay the ubers. When they're finished, and we've unloaded the suitcases, our little crew heads towards security. Jenn, Andrea, Arden, and Lauren are about five people in front of us. They wave, and signal to meet them towards the restrooms.
Really, the entire first half of going through the airport is a blur for me. It's my first time in an airport. I've never been on a plane. Ever. So this whole experience was confusing.
Finally, we're able to meet the girls.
"Hey!" All of them yell. Then they take turns hugging and greeting each of us. When they've finished, Kian, Sam, Jc, and Connor go to use the restroom while Trevor goes to make a phone call. So that leaves me, Ricky, and the girls. They're all talking about some plans that they have for the trip, but I stay silent. I just observe everything going on around me. The people going in and out of the bathroom, making phone calls, quick food stops, and running, trying not to miss their flight.
This is when the fear sets in. I'm going to be on an airplane. Up in the sky. I shudder at the thought. But my thoughts are interrupted when Sam grabs my hand.
"You okay?" He asks.
I nod. "I'm fine."
"Ever been on a plane?"
"No."
"You sure you aren't scared?"
"She's not scared," Kian interrupts. "She's terrified."
"Oh, shut up!" I say, sacking his arm.
"Fine," Kian says, backing up. He joins Trevor, who is just getting off the phone.
Sam turns to me. "You'll be fine."
I lean his embrace. "Okay."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not long afterwards, I'm seated between Jenn and Ricky. The three musketeers reunited. Sam is sitting a few rows in front of me with Kian and Jc. Then Lauren and Arden are sitting behind us next to some old lady. And Trevor is sitting with Andrea in the row next to us. I can't see who's on the other side of them.
One of the flight attendants go over the intercom and give us safety instructions. I'm only halfway paying attention. My mind is on the fact that I'm in an airplane. And that airplane is about to take off. I think I'm going to have a heart attack.
Sam looks back at me and mouths, "You okay?"
I nod. I mean, I'm panicking on the inside, but whatever, ya know? Just whatever.
"Alex?" Jenn says, waving her hand in front of my face. "Earth to Alex!"
I whip my head towards her. "Huh?"
Ricky and Jenn chuckle. "Is this your first time on an airplane?"
"Yes."
"Are you scared?"
All I can do is nod.
"There's nothing to be scared of!" Ricky assures me. "You've got your two best friends right here."
As if it was orchestrated, both of them grab my hand closest to them. The nerves settle down some, but not a lot. It's nice to have them next to me helping me through this. I couldn't imagine doing this by myself.
Slowly, the plane starts to lurch forward. My stomach clenches, and my grip on Jenn and Ricky's hands tighten. The plane gains speed, and is soon in the air. Suddenly, I feel nauseous. I close my eyes and count to ten. It passes.
"You okay?" Ricky asks.
I nod. "I'm fine."
"Look!" Jenn exclaims, looking out the little window on her side. I lean over and look. Now, we're higher up. Everything down below is so small. But, somehow, it's gorgeous.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After we land in Florida, I've decided I love flying. Love it. What was I even scared about?
By the time we get through baggage claim, and call several ubers, it's late. But by the time we get to the hotel, it's even later. It's decided that I'll share a room with Jenn and Andrea.
As soon as Andrea opens the door to our room, I set my suitcase down, plop on the bed, and go to sleep.
