TW: VIOLENCE AND GORE
(AANG'S POV)
It's been days. I haven't seen or spoken to Y/N in days and it's driving me absolutely insane. Unable to withstand the seemingly unending hurt and anger wafting from her hall, I began taking every job request that came our way, even the little ones I would usually send Sokka out for. Finding lost pets, helping farm, repairing buildings, stopping feuds between towns and families, I kept busy and far away from home. It seemed whenever I stopped in for anything, nobody besides Toph had seen Y/N or spoken to her, and if she had said something to Toph, she certainly wasn't sharing with me.
A disaster always on the horizon however, and I had to be joined by Sokka, Zuko, Haru and Toph for my current task. A landslide in the town next to ours had taken out a few houses, decimated several fields of farmland and trapped a dozen people under the rubble. Haru and Toph were digging out the last few people with their earthbending, Sokka was tending to wounds, Zuko was busy helping keep the head of town distracted from his frustration by planning the rebuilding of the homes that had been destroyed and figuring out a way to prevent future landslides from damaging the town, and I was engrossed with using all my bending to move the majority of the rubble away and recreating as many of the field beds as possible, to help the townspeople get back to their lives as quickly as possible. I knew it was unnecessary of me to do, they were capable of rebuilding and just needed help with the injured, but it kept my mind focused on something aside from how monumental of a screwup I was.
Lifting a large pile of debris into a ball above me, I hurled it to the pile I had made when an itching sensation pulled at my chest. Stopping, I rubbed a hand over it, and it increased. Frowning I rubbed harder, only for the itch to increase further. It spread through my arms and began to inch down my body, like tiny needles stabbing into every inch of my skin, becoming less of a nuisance and more painful with each moment. I could hear Toph to my right, yelling at me, but I was too preoccupied with frantically trying to scratch myself. As the pain increased, localizing in my chest, the realization of what was happening struck me like an arrow.
Y/N.
But I wasn't in the Avatar state! I refused to do so. So what was happening?
Something hit me and I spun around, panting desperately, clawing at my shirt and trying to focus. Toph crosses the distance between us, shaking me fiercely and yelling something I couldn't quite make out. Haru appeared on my right and grabbed my chin, forcing me to look behind him at the insane glowing beam of light rising into the sky. It was coming from the direction of our home. Zuko was already in the distance on his steed, Sokka on the back of the animal holding tightly to the saddle, fading from view as they hurried back.
I tried to take a step towards Appa, and began to cough harshly. Haru and Toph's expressions of worry blurred as I stumbled forward, grasping Haru's shoulder for support. The pain in my chest grew to a near unbearable point and began to radiate through every inch of my body. I was vaguely aware of my body being lifted onto my bison, and felt the rushing wind of being airborne on my skin. As we grew closer the agony in my body grew so quickly I opened my mouth to tell them to land and simply screamed. Although my eyes were scrunched tightly closed I could see the bright lights coming from my body as it tried to enter the Avatar state, and it flickered as I fought doing so.
Someone was slapping my cheek roughly, trying to get my attention, and I wrenched my eyes open to see Toph through tears of pain. Her lips were moving but the noise was muffled, and I took a shuddering breath before screaming in agony again.
All at once my surroundings vanished and I found myself in Y/N's room. I was floating off the ground, the anger coursing through my body sending everything flying around in gusts of wind. A strange, otherworldly strength filled my body at the same time as it drained all energy from me. To my horror I held a terrified looking Katara by her throat, dangling her before me like a rag doll. My mouth opened to speak and I heard the distorted voices of the last Avatars pouring from my mouth.
