"Gyatsu! Get down from there!" Katara yelled at the small child as he sprinted across the rooftop, chubby cheeks bouncing when he stopped suddenly and stuck his tongue out at his aunt.

"Nyah!" He blew a raspberry.

Sokka laughed, rolling on the ground next to his sister. Toph entered the courtyard and took notice of the vibrations coming from above her. Earth bending her way up to the roof she snatched the child and jumped back down, unable to stop the grin that spread across her face at the child's delighted squeal. Landing firmly in the dirt Toph dropped the kid onto his belly, snickering at the way the child laughed louder and began to chant.

"Again again Aunny!!!"

"You know for someone who has TwinkleToes for a dad you would think your footsteps would be a bit less easy to find, Tsu."

Gyatsu squealed again as Sokka rolled and snatched the toddler, tossing him into the air and catching him on his feet, pretending to fly him around like a little airplane.

"Yeah, I thought air benders were supposed to be all quiet and solemn, huh?" He teased and Gyatsu laughed, his small cheeks growing pink.

Katara rolled her eyes.

"Air bender or not, is no one going to acknowledge that the TODDLER can't be running around on the ROOF?"

A laugh sounded in the courtyard and Toph grinned, turned her head towards the noise.

"Speak of the devil himself. Welcome home TwinkleToes."

Aang jumped down from the roof and landed next to the four, smiling warmly as Sokka set down his squirming little boy and chucking as he threw himself against his dads legs.

"DADDY!"

Scooping up the dark haired toddler Aang planted a firm kiss against his temple.

"I thought you guys weren't going to be back for another few days?" Sokka asked, unable to stop smiling at how happy his brother looked holding the kid. Aang smiled at Gyatsu and ruffled his hair, putting him up onto his shoulders where he began to play drums on his dads bald head, using one tiny hand to trace the arrow.

"I managed to convince Zuko to just hire May as his advisor already, and she's already gotten all the expansions we discussed set in motion." Aang smiled. "So I got to come home a few days early to see the best air bender in the world."

Gyatsu stopped and looked down at his dad, his eyes bright and sparkling. "Me?!?!"

Everyone laughed.

"Yes, you."

The small boy wrapped his arms around AANGS head in a hug. "I 'ove you Daddy."

Unable to stop the small flush that creeped up his cheeks as he grinned Aang swept the child from around his shoulders to curl him up in a big hug, peppering smooches all over his chubby face.

"I love you too kiddo."

Gyatsu smiled, and looked around at his family before Aang leaned in close and teasingly growled into his ear.

"Now what's this I hear about you being on the roof again?"

(IN THE DISTANT FUTURE)

I walked along the beach, smiling at the warmth of the sun on my skin. Peace filled my mind and I dipped my toes into the water, enjoying the perfect coolness as I patiently waited. Behind me there was a slight rustling and my smile grew, knowingly. Time was up.

"Took you long enough."

I turned to see the same boy I fell in love with so long ago emerging from the bushes, his body free of scars and wounds, his eyes warm and loving as he approached me.

"I had some things to take care of, love. I'm sorry I took so long."

His arms wrapped around me and I leaned up on my tiptoes to press my lips to his, content and relieved that my wait was over. Now I could say what I wanted to so long ago, as I lay on this very beach in another world.

"I love you, Aang."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi guys! Thank you so much for being here for the end of my story. I've been wanting to finish this for so long, and while this was the way I wanted it to end when I started it I've definitely added more to it along the way. I had so much fun writing it all out, and was amazed by how many of you guys really liked it. Avatar The Last Airbender was one of my favorite shows as a child, and after I became a teen and discovered fan fiction I had wanted to write an ATLA story so badly. I used to scribble ideas in the margins of my math homework and write out storyboards during creative writing classes. When I found Wattpad I knew I had my chance to finally do what I wanted to all these years and I set out to make the best story I could.
I couldn't have done this without my family being so supportive of my writing, my spite towards the people that told me I couldn't ever write anything worthwhile, and all of you guys for being so determined to get the ending of my tale in your brain holes that you never stopped bugging me to finish it. If I had a dollar for every time someone pm'd me to finish this story I could afford to print paperback copies and give them out like candy at a Christmas parade lol.
Next up I'll be transitioning to finishing Speechless, another story I've left for way too long here. I adored writing that one as much as this one, and I have so many ideas for where I want it to go. I hope you all enjoyed the ending of The Two of Us, and I hope you enjoy what's to come.
Stay happy, stay safe. I love you wonderful marshmallows. 🥰
