Around one in the morning, Zayn and Harry had called it a night.
Zayn walked to his apartment defeated and it bothered Harry to leave him in such a state, but Harry knew Zayn had to be alone. At least for the night.
Once he arrived to his apartment, he tossed his bag next to his bed and wrapped himself in his blankets, surrendering to his exhaustion.
The sirens of police cars speeding down the street woke up Zayn. Grumbling under his breath, he got up and closed his window fully regretting ever leaving it open. He collapsed onto his bed and checked the time.
4am.
He stared at the ceiling, listening to the noises of cars and busses pass beneath his apartment. He knew he wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. He sighed as he sat on the corner of his bed.
"Bullocks," He muttered as he realized how early it was.
He stared outside his window and enjoyed the view of the dark night sky, sparsely decorated with faint grey clouds.
He looked over to his bookbag and decided to look through his journal where his unfinished song lived.
He skimmed the pages before grabbing a pen.
He didn't think of finishing the song nor did he have any goal set once he picked up the tattered journal.
But he began writing.
After a few minutes of thoughtless writing and editing, Zayn had finished the outro.
He looked up in amazement and let out a chuckle.
He anxiously grabbed his pens and went to the fire escape outside his window. He laid out his pens and took out the pages of the finished song. Not to mention, the ideas and lyrics he'd written on napkins or ripped pieces of paper throughout the night.
Traffic below him became background noise and the Los Angeles night offered a cool breeze that calmed Zayn in a way he didn't know he needed.
He began writing the 2nd verse.
"Nobody said this would be easy..." He mumbled before shaking his head and scribbling it out. "Nobody said that you would leave me, nobody says that in the start." He wrote while sticking his tongue out.
He sang it softly before scratching it out. "Nobody said that you would leave me, nobody says that in this dark..." He finished before smiling.
He quickly writes: "insatiable, yearn, life makes love... unattainable"
With those themes in mind, he finished the 2nd verse.
Zayn knew he was going to finish the song that night, he felt it in his core. But he didn't give the goal much thought. He didn't want to jinx himself.
He thought if he were in a movie, an orchestra would be playing aggressively as the camera panned around him, zooming in on his focused eyes and rapidly moving pen.
As he finished the last edits on the bridge, he began singing the melody to the song. Once the last word was written, he tapped his pen on the journal and smiled widely.
He tightly held the journal to his chest and closed his eyes before laying on his back to look up at the sky.
It had turned into a light purple, signaling the sun was about to rise.
Zayn let out a sigh of relief and a wave of joy washed through his body. But he still wasn't finished.
He wanted to present the song to Harry in a formal way. No scribbles and easy to read. So he began to lay out all the pages on the metal floor.
