Chapter 8
(Zeke's POV)
I drove myself home from Aria's place. I still think about what had happened and what I did. I didnt know what got into me. I just knew I had to do something. I couldnt take it seeing her on the verge of breaking down again. I remembered the first time I saw her. She was crying but still I got attracted to her. Her efervescent face that was hidden in those long blonde hair and not to mention her crystal blue eyes. It drove me crazy when she locked them with mine.
It got more interesting when I got the chance to know her more on our trip to the hill and exhibit. I felt at ease with her.I had never known anyone like her.
However, there's a problem. Ericka, Aria's bestfriend, she's sweet and beautiful but she's not really my kind of girl. My friends kept on telling me I was lucky that the hottest girl at school was into me. She's too aggressive. She was the one who kept making the moves. I was just not into it. I was caught off guard when she kissed me that night. Now, she's been telling people we were dating. Maybe I should talk to her?
"Mom I'm home." I walked in the dining room but nobody's there.
"Zeke is that you? Have you eaten already? I'll fix you something." she said while huffing smoke from her cigarette and holding a glass of wine on the other hand.
Judging by her looks she's been crying again. "No, Im not hungry. I'll go upstairs." I muttered. She nodded then sipped her wine and continued staring blankly at the window.
My mom's drinking again probably another fight with my dad. It sucked living with parents always yelling at each other and didnt even care about their children. I hated my father for treating my mother like this. I hate seeing her cry all the time. I promised myself that I would never be like him. Yes, he's a succesful businessman but his family was falling apart.
I slacked on my bed, turned the volume up on my iPhone, shut my eyes and tried to escape from reality.
"Cant you see that your smothering me.
Holding too tightly afraid to lose control.
And all the things that you thought I would be has fallen apart right in front of you.
Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow,
Every step that I take is another mistake to you,
Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow
Every second I waste , is more than I can take.
Ive become so Numb! I cant feel you there.
Become so tired, so much more aware, Im becoming this, all I want to do is be more like me and be less like you." (LinkinPark- Numb)
Then, there was a loud knock on the door.
I opened it and found my little sister Riley, holding the phone. "Got a call from your girlfriend. I didnt know you had one. You should've told me." She said then handed me the phone.
"Its none of your business." I stated. She made a face and marched downstairs.
She's a jealous type kind of sister. She's just ten and she didnt like girls flirting with her big brother.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Zeke, its me Ericka." Ericka said.
"How did you know my landline
number?" I asked.
"From Matt, hey listen, I was wondering if your free again this weekend that maybe we could hangout?" She asked firmly without hesitations.
Good going there Matt.
"Um, about that, can we talk about it personally tomorrow? I have something to tell you." I said.
"Tell me now." She insisted.
"Its best to talk about it personally. See ya tomorrow." I explained and hang up.
At school I saw Aria and Ericka both walking the corridors. Seeing the two of them together made my stomach churned. I need to tell Ericka that I like someone else. But im about to ruin their friendship. What should I do?
The two of them walked up to me I was trying to find the right words to say to Ericka. She was looking optimistic and said. "Hi. So what do you want to talk about?" She asked.
I glanced at Aria with eyes wide open. I cleared my throat and said.
"Can we talk just the two of us?" She giggled and smiled at Aria with excitement.
Uh oh. Maybe she's thinking Im about to ask her to be my girlfriend officially. Aria just nodded then went away.
"I cant wait to hear what you're going to say to me." Ericka said enthusiastically.
"Um, Ericka... Your beautiful and sweet, any guy would be lucky to have you but i cant date you anymore." I said.
"What? Are you serious? why? she shouted.
"I like someone else." I finally said it.
"Who is this girl? Do I know her?" she interrogated me.
"Does it matter?" I asked.
"Of course it does. Im the hottest girl in school and you dump me for this chick. I demand to know." she exclaimed.
"Give it up. Okay? Please just understand." I implied and gave her a serious look. She just nodded and turned away without looking back.
I hope Ericka would understand. I never meant to lead her on. Now, my problem was how to tell Aria I had feelings for her. They were bestfriends I maybe ruining their friendship. But I couldnt get Aria out of my head.
"Zeke, over here!" Matt,my friend, shouted at our regular lunch table. I dropped my bag and seated next to him and Nick.
"Zup, man? So how did it go with Ericka? I gave your number she insisted." He said while smirking.
"I told her I'm not going out with her anymore." I stated.
"Dude, are you outta your mind!?" Nick said, shocked.
"Im with Nick. She's the most hottest girl here." Matt added.
"I knew that, but Im just not into her. I told her I like someone else." i explained.
"What?!" they both shouted.
"Dude, you shouldnt have told her that!!" Nick said.
"Yea, man. That totally blows." Matt implied. They both shook their heads then the bell rang.
Why was it a big deal? As i went to Art class, I was looking forward to see Aria. But it appeared she wasnt looking forward to see me. What's up with girls they're confusing. First they talk to you and the next thing you know they ignore you.
"Hey." I said to Aria while sitting next to her.
"Hey yourself." she replied grimly.
"What's with the attitude?" I asked.
"I just talked to Ericka, she said you dumped her for someone else." she exclaimed furiously.
"That's true."I smiled at her.
"You know that would drive her crazy. She could give you a hard time." she explained.
"I doubt it." I said glumly.
"So who's the girl?" she got nearer and her voice turned into a whisper.
"It's you." I grinned at her.
