I woke up to one of our instructors, Four, banging a pole on an exposed pipe. "Be in the pit in 5." He yelled. I used the bathroom and then changed quickly.

The pit was full of people, no old people but I didn't want to be old anyway. If I wasn't a fighter I'd be dead by now anyway. Four began to explain. "The first stage is primarily physical, the second stage primarily mental, and third emotional." I saw the leader, Eric, standing there. "You will be ranked on this so fight hard." "Ranked?" Someone asked. "Yes. Rankings will determine the jobs you go into." He licked his lips. "Leadership, guarding the fence, or keeping the factionless from killing one another." Four said. "Ranks will also determine who gets cut." I smirked some I knew weren't cut out for this. "Cut?" The same tall girl who'd asked earlier said. "At the end of training the lowest ranking initiates will be leaving us." He said darkly. "To do what?" And Erudite boy said. "Well there's no going home to your family's so you live factionless." "Why didn't we know that?" The boy asked. "It's a new rule." I think I will like the harshness of Dauntless. "Why didn't someone tell us that if we'd kn-." "Why? Would you have chosen differently out of fear?" Eric said. It was a statement not a question. "If that's the case, you might as well get out now. If your really one of us it won't matter to you that you might fail." I smile. I wouldn't fail. I didn't fear failure but I didn't allow me to fail either. "You chose us, now we get to choose you."

"You remember me I will be overseeing training to make sure it is done right." He says on the way to the training room.I roll my eyes. He was so cocky and full of himself, but under that I respected him. Something I saw in him remind me of myself. I also admired how he had the speaking skill and and speed of an Erudite but the pronunciation and harshness of Dauntless. His tongue is impeccable. Almost like mine.

We stood on the roof and four thought us how to shoot a hand gun. I watched his stance and how he didn't let it kick back. The first time i missed completely but I was the second initiate to hit the center of the target. I was after Molly. I felt eyes on me, but to whom the eyes belonged to I didn't know. I shivered. The feeling lingered.

By the end my fingers were stiff like the abnegation and sore. My shoulders hurt from holding the gun out so far. I sat alone at lunch. A gap around me formed. I saw Eric talking to the other leaders. I saw his blue eyes drift around.

Why did he interest me so much? Why did I let him get in my head the way he has? Why do his eyes make me shiver? I pushed the thought of him down not allowing them to come back up. I wouldn't risk my chance at being Dauntless due to the leader of the faction.

This little stiff named Tris fought with Molly and I fought with this girl named Christina. I won. Obviously I didn't get out without a few bruises but it wasn't to bad. A black eye and a busted lip and a few bruises but not much More. Four and Eric seemed impressed. It must be cause I was amity.

I laid in bed that night with my eyes closed. I had been for a few hours now and I couldn't sleep. I  slipped out of bed in my black sports Bra and spandex. I pulled on some shorts and slipped out of the dormitory. I don't think anyone heard me over a Candor boys sobs anyway.

I walk down to the chasm and stand on the old bottom railing. I lean forward and let my long brown hair fall in my face gently. I smile. I've been happier here. I've smiled more. I laughed. I had to leave the happy faction to be happy. Funny.

Then I hear a voice. "Your not gonna jump are you?" I saw Eric walk up behind me. "No, are you?" I say jokingly, raising an eyebrow. He just stayed serious. "You should be in bed." He said grabbing my shoulder and started to walk me to the dorms. "I get to do whatever I want after 6" I say. "You said so yourself." He shakes his head. "Not you." I hit his hand off. "Why Not Me!" I yell. Calmly he said. "Your my most promising initiate." I wish he didn't try to look my in the eyes. His eyes were calming but I couldn't be calm right now. "Well you don't control me." My feet still moved in sync with his. I told them to stop but they couldn't.

He stoped outside a large opening in the wall. The sign read infirmary. "Stay here." I obeyed. He walked him and came out with a round orange capsule with a black line through it. It was the size of my fist. He twisted it open. Smaller blue capsule. "It'll help you sleep." I nod. He also hands me a water bottle. I pop the pill in my mouth and feel it take affect. Then I fall into a deep sleep.

I wake up to the bustling of feet. How did I get back here. I hop up already dressed but I still look in my drawer to see the sleep pills. A sticky note is attached.

'I meant take it once you get back initiate. Anyway I have to take these some times, dont take more than two of you'll end up in the infirmary or dead.'

Eric must have wrote this. Why was he so kind to me? He drove me insane.
