Freshman year was pretty tough for Sophie. Everyone stared, everyone whispered. With starting at a new school, Sebastian thought that people wouldn't notice the change in his sister's appearance, but since most people who were with them in middle school, moved along to the same High School, everyone who knew told everyone who didn't know. Sophie was once again the crazy girl, this time with the twist of being the crazy girl who knew the girl who killed herself. And everyone avoided her, like always. The only difference this time was that Sophie didn't care. She let the people call her names, she didn't try to act normal, she stayed alone and refused to be pulled into another friendship, three times ought to teach her a lesson. She always stayed by her brother's side, they would go to school together and come back together, no extra activities. No lakes, no malls, no games.
But of course Sophie couldn't stop Sebastian from being adored by everyone, from making friends, even if he himself said he didn't need anyone. She wouldn't put him through that sort of misery, that was her package to carry. But Sophie didn't expect Sebastian to get himself a girlfriend, and a sophomore at that. In previous years Sebastian had been sought out by multiple girls, but he never took his eye off the one main girl in his life, Sophie. But Clarissa Jones was a different story, and Sophie won't deny that she was the most befitting of her brother. Clarissa wasn't only beautiful but also so kind and sweet and very intelligent. She was head of the debate team and on the girl's volleyball team. Even Sophie's mom adored her, her father, usually not caring what Sebastian did in his life, gave him the nod of approval when he brought her home to meet their parents.
Clarissa was even great with Sophie. She was always nice to her, even when Sebastian wasn't there. She even tried to become Sophie's friend, but Sophie wouldn't allow that kind of thing again. She knew better. So Clarissa just stuck to being nice to Sophie, asking her how she was and occasionally standing up to other people when they bullied Sophie.
It was great that Sebastian was finally happy and he wasn't treating Sophie any differently like she expected he would when he got a girlfriend. But Sophie couldn't help but feel like she was being swept aside and replaced.
