16 - Down in the Dungeon

Taehyung didn't sleep a wink. He didn't really need to, being a vampire and all. The only reason he had been comfortable enough to sleep earlier was because Jungkook had been there. Alone in the dreary dungeon, he couldn't really get himself to relax enough although sleeping would save some of his energy.

If he had to use one word to describe himself in his current situation, it would be either 'miserable' or 'thirsty'. They were pretty much synonyms at this point.

The best way to torture a vampire was to let them smell the blood, maybe even taste a drop but nothing more. Taehyung wasn't keen on getting to know what that would be like. At times he even denied the need.

I'm a human. I don't even need to drink blood to survive.

Yet when the morning arrived and Jimin sneaked in, the first thing Taehyung did was ask to drink from him.

"Please Jimin. I'm so thirsty, it's killing me."

Jimin was quick to offer his help, reaching his hand inside the cell so that Taehyung could drink from it. It tasted better than Bambam's but it was a long way from the sweetness of the liquid gold running in Jungkook's veins.

"Ta-Taehyung, that's enough. You should stop."

Jimin's voice was so weak that it put Taehyung's mind on alert. He immediately retraced his fangs and the other pulled his arm back.

"S-sorry, I..."

"It's okay, don't worry about it."

Taehyung had the word 'sorry' written all over his face but Jimin pretended not to see it. That's not what he came here for.

"Yoongi interrupted us last time. I needed to tell you about the portal. This is all tied to the war that's going to happen in just a few days."

If possible, Taehyung looked even more solemn at the mention of the war.

"Where should I begin... the thing is, we vampires may know more about the 'Moon lake' than the werewolf pack does. It has a lot of magical properties, like the capability of working as a portal. The lake is the strongest link between your world and ours. The truth is, these two worlds used to be one."

"What?"

"It's true. I don't know the exact details either but the thing that matters is the goal. The previous generations have wanted to unite the two worlds once again but the thought has gotten a lot of opposition as well. For Yoongi, he doesn't believe it's possible."

"What does he intend to do then?"

"Get revenge."

"By killing off the werewolves?"

"By killing off the humans in your world."

Taehyung wasn't following. What did humans have to do with anything?

"It's quite ironic when he himself fell for one, wanted to make you his queen even."

And Jimin told him how humans mixed with different species, mostly vampires and werewolves. Told him how the vampires noticed the mixed children being weaker. The parents wouldn't let their offspring be killed and that's how the damage was already done.

Werewolf packs faced surprising consequences too as a whole new rank was born; betas. Jimin found it funny how werewolves quickly learnt to appreciate betas' qualities. They worked well as the middle-ground between alphas and omegas.
