20 - Fight of two worlds

"Jungkook, do you even hear me?" Yugyeom's voice broke through the barrier into Jungkook's consciousness.

"Wha.. yeah, it's okay. We shouldn't be here", Jungkook said as he stood up on shaky legs with the help of his friend.

"Can you even fight like this?" Yugyeom worried.

"I'll be fine. I have a reason not to lose", Jungkook said, gritting his teeth.

"Then let's go", Minji joined.

Yugyeom looked hesitant, knowing that his friend wasn't in his best condition. And even if he was, he'd be reluctant to let Jungkook fight. It's just that no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't make the decision for him.

"Yeah. Let's go and win this war. Then we'll come back here and give Taehyung hell if he shows up", he finally agreed.

Bambam didn't feel confident. He felt rather empty, facing the enemy without his closest friends who had gone off somewhere in the direction of the Moon lake.

As he tore off an arm from one vampire, he wished he wasn't such a coward. He had backed out on talking things out with Yugyeom when he got back with Jungkook, put it off for the possible future after the war. He thought that in case he would die in the battlefield, it would be better if Yugyeom never got to know his feelings. 

In the end, they were two alphas, not supposed to be compatible at all. It wasn't wrong and there weren't any laws against it, yet Bambam had always been hesitant, always been afraid of what people would think of them. He was sure people already thought they were weird for being so close and even sharing a house although alphas are supposed to be very territorial. But the more Bambam thought about it, the more he realized how much Yugyeom didn't give a shit. Yugyeom had never cared about the pack's opinion on their close friendship, he wouldn't care about their opinion on a romantic relationship between two alphas either.

I'm such a fool, aren't I?

And maybe if his eyes didn't get teary, maybe if his vision had been less hazy, he could have dodged the arrow.

Taehyung was back. He had made it back.

It felt weird, sitting on the edge of the swimming pool after all this time. It was late evening and he was a bit chilly since his clothes were wet. He scanned his surroundings and it seemed like Jungkook's parents weren't at home. They never were, but this time Taehyung was grateful of it because he didn't know how to explain everything to them.

It took few minutes of calming himself down for Taehyung to remember that he had to hurry. He had to empty the pool so that the portal would be unusable. He knew there would be guards on the other side too but who knew if they'd be able to hold back the vampires. He was almost certain that his plan would work, there was just one problem.

He had to stay to watch that the pool really got emptied and stop anyone that might come through the portal in that time. It meant he couldn't go back. He could never return to that world ever again, never see Jungkook and the others again. He was also blocking the path for Jungkook to return, but he didn't feel as guilty for that. Why? Because he knew that Jungkook's best friends were Yugyeom and Bambam. In that world, Jungkook had a family that really cared for him. And on top of that he was a werewolf.

Taehyung had no idea how he himself was going to make it; how he would live here again after being turned into a vampire. He just had to figure something out.

He had just found the pump with which he could pump the water out of the pool when he heard a dog bark behind him. It was not just any dog...

"Yeontan", Taehyung turned around slowly, expecting to see one of his parents staring at their son who had disappeared for months.

Instead he saw Bogum, holding the leash. He did use to walk Yeontan whenever their family went on a trip but it was still unexpected.

"Taehyung...oh my god, it really is you", Bogum stared with wide eyes. Taehyung didn't know what to say.

"I-"

"Where the fuck have you been? And what are you doing here? Outside Jeon's house? Why are your clothes and hair wet?"

"It's kind of hard to explain, you probably wouldn't believe me but I-"

"Ah, I see what it is. You and Jeon have a thing after all. You two have been away from school for whole two weeks, of course you'd be together."

Just two weeks?

"Look, I get if you didn't want to tell me, but that was a shit thing to do to your parents. They have been worried sick, I even offered to take care of Yeontan to help."

Taehyung gulped, trying to sort out his thoughts and get out of this mess. There wasn't time to waste, someone might get through the portal and-

Wait.

The moment the idea came into his head, he felt like a child hoping to get ice cream as a dessert, knowing that he was being greedy but not able to help asking just in case he had a chance.

"I'm so grateful for everything you've done to help, I really am, but I have to ask for one more favour."

"Does it have something to do with the way you're struggling with that pump?"

"Kinda."

Bambam was lying on the dirt, people running all around and even over him. The noise was beginning to tune out, the world blackening from the edges. Soon all he heard was the beating of his heart, pace alarming.

I'm a fast healer, I'll be okay.

He didn't know why he kept repeating those words over and over in his head. He didn't know why he refused to acknowledge the death looming over him. He didn't know why he suddenly craved to survive so much, craved to live.

Bambam didn't want to die and when he saw that person, he knew exactly why.

Dammit... You do know how I feel, don't you? You probably knew all along.

And he was right. He knew he was when Yugyeom dropped down next to him and cried out. He knew from the look in his eyes, knew from the words through the weak link.

/Don't die on me, we haven't done anything yet. We have to prove them that two alphas can be mates too. We have to annoy Jungkook with how disgustingly sweet we can be. We have to show my sisters that I found my mate before any of them did. We have to be all cheesy and confess how much we love each other, and not in the way friends do./

Bambam really hoped that Yugyeom knew. He had to know that the tears in Bambam's eyes were happy before they turned bitter. Had to know that his smile was pure before it turned sour. Because he didn't want to lose that future.

/Then let's start with this: I love you. I have always loved you./
