hueningkai's heart pounded against his chest as he checked the time on his phone once more. in angry red numbers, it read: 2:15 am.

he sighed loudly and buried his face into his pillow, letting out a silent scream. he then removes his face from his pillow and stares up at his ceiling with his bloodshot eyes.

hueningkai had been trying for the past two hours to fall asleep but to his dismay, he was wide awake. his body was tired but his mind was just running wild, not allowing him the sleep he desired so badly.

he groans as he throws his covers off his body, slipping on his bunny slippers, and trudges to the kitchen. if he was awake, might as well have a snack or something. but to his surprise, before he can inch into the kitchen, a figure is already in there, looking around for something to munch on.

frightened at the unfamiliar figure, hueningkai quickly grabs a broom from the garage and approaches the stranger quietly. just as the figure is about to turn around, hueningkai raises the broom up to smack the shit out of the stranger.

the figure yelps and scurries away from the manic with the broom, whisper-shouting, "what are you doing, idiot?!"

hueningkai bits his lips sheepishly, as he turns on the light, revealing taehyun, who had a scowl on his face. he also had the same bloodshot eyes that hueningkai was currently sporting.

"what are you doing, hyung?" hueningkai accused suspiciously, placing a hand on his hip. "you scared me to death!"

"i scared you?! you almost knocked me out with a broom! i am the one who has the right to be scared!" taehyun barks out, curling his lip up in anger.

"okay okay, i'm sorry," hueningkai raises his hands up in surrender at the angry squirrel. "but for real, what are you doing here, hyung?"

"i'll only answer if you answer." the older boy responds pettily.

"ugh, fine, we say it together." hueningkai rolls his eyes, but complies nonetheless.

taehyun nods and together they say, "i couldn't sleep."

they stare at one another for awhile then giggle, seeing the familiar tiredness in their eyes.

"why can't you sleep?" taehyun asks as he proceeds to open a bag of chips.

"i don't know," hueningkai shrugs, fiddling with the strings of his large pullover. "how about you?"

"don't know either." taehyun answers simply, popping a chip into his mouth.

"well..." hueningkai starts, getting an idea. "how about we..." he stops, his cheeks turning bright red.

"spit it out, ningning." taehyun smirks, knowing why the younger was so flustered.

"how about we... cuddle?" hueningkai suggests, turning his red face away from his hyung's smug look.

"if you really want to, huening." taehyun giggles, grabbing ahold of hueningkai's hand and bringing him to his bed.

"i brought some of your plushies," taehyun says, handing over some of hueningkai's favorite dolls. "we can share my blanket."

hueningkai nods quietly, settling into taehyun's bed. he inhaled taehyun's sweet smell through the bedsheets, smiling softly at how it calmed it.

taehyun climbs into bed, wrapping his arms around the back of hueningkai's waist.

hueningkai whines, "b-but you're small, i'm supposed to be big spoon."

"oh shut up you big baby, you like this better." taehyun rolls his eyes playfully, snuggling his face into hueningkai's back.

hueningkai goes quiet but well... taehyun wasn't lying. it felt nice to be held so gently.

hueningkai soon found his eyes grow heavy and slowly, he was lulled into a sweet slumber. taehyun raises his head to see if hueningkai was asleep and smiles fondly.

the younger looked so doll-like and ethereal while he slept; so peaceful and innocent. with the sweet face of hueningkai's etched in his mind, taehyun fell asleep, comforted by the warmth hueningkai brought him.

and from that day forward, taehyun and hueningkai became the loveliest cuddle buddies ever.
