He sat at the edge of the ocean and looked at the far.

It  was in this same place he had tried to take his life when everything had become too much to bear.

Flashback....

That morning, he woke up to the sound of his phone buzzing.

He had over a hundred messages and almost thirty missed calls, most of which were from Lauren.

He called her immediately.

They had not yet made their divorce official to the public and maybe she wanted to give them another chance.

"Hey Lauren, what's up?"

"What's  up???? Eric, you went to the paparazzi and told them you were divorcing me because I was a bitch? I knew you would do anything to maintain your reputation but this is low, even for you."

He could hear her voice crack at the end.

But he hadn't done it. He was sure of that.

"Lauren, I didn't do it. I swear on my son's...."

"Don't you dare swear on Philip's life. Your such a selfish bastard. I don't know what I ever saw in you."

"Lauren..."

He didn't get to finish the sentence as she humg up on him.

He looked at the link she had sent him and sure enough, there it was. A photo of the editor was below the report and as soon as he saw him, he remembered him from the previous night.

How could he have been stupid enough to say that in front of a stranger?

Before he could say anything else, he got another call. It was from Adam.

"Adam, please believe me. I didn't mean any of those things. I was drunk and really upset."

"I can't believe you would do that Eric. That's really low."

He felt as though his heart had been pierced. The one person he thought he could count on didn't believe him.

"Please you have to believe me. I don't have anyone else but you."

"I thought you were better than that. Guess now you're all alone." And with that , Adam hanged up.

Eric couldn't take it.

He pushed himself out of bed , wore his shoes and got out of the house through the backyard.

He ran with the ocean in mind as his destination.

Arriving there, he went to a part of the beach  that was secluded and private. He needed to be alone.

He sat at the edge of  the shore, thinking about everything.

He was sure Lauren would not want him near their son and Adam made it clear he wanted nothing to do with him. His family didn't care about him so he was all alone.

He threw a rock at the ocean and watched how it went in.

Maybe, he could also drown his sorrows in this mass of water.

He had nobody so no one would get hurt if  he did.

He looked at the ocean.

The water seemed to be inviting.

It was so peaceful.

The kind of peace he needed in his life.

The kind he wanted.

He stood up and walked in.

The waves seemed to push him even further in, as though they were inviting him.

Who was he to refuse them if nature accepted him?

He walked further in till he felt the water near the tip of his nose.

He then closed  his eyes, and let the waters do the rest.

At last, he would finally have peace.

He would be free from all the hatred people had against him.

His loved ones would no longer suffer because of him.

At last, they would be happy, and so would he.
