Five has been gone for over a year now. Or more, time is hard here. One day, he went to go gather food, and I haven’t seen him since. He didn’t take anything with him, not even Delores.
Delores is a mannequin he found a few weeks after being here, and he treated the object like a person.

Eventually I even started talking to her. Mostly because it reminded me of Five, and God, did I miss him. Five and I became so close, all things considered. I had only been there a year when life threw this curveball at me, and it hit me hard, broke my bones. Literally and figuratively.

One day, going to gather food, I tripped on a body and broke my knee. I had to make a makeshift splint, and use that for several months. And not being able to see a doctor, made the whole process worse.

My mother always said that when the sun was visible below the horizon consecutively for nine days, on the ninth day, it was my birthday. That’s how I told the years here, and I had been here for three years already, and one of them spent all alone. It’s lonely, and boring.

On a particular day, I decided to just roam around the city, for the hell of it. I first went to the Umbrella academy, and looked through the room that was once the library, I found all the books burnt, except one. Well, it was slightly burnt, but I picked it up anyways, it was Five’s sister’s book, her name was Vanya. The book was called, “Vanya Hargreeves, My Life As Number 7” I figured it couldn’t hurt anything to read it, so I stuffed it in my bag, and went back home. Jeez, is that what we’re calling it now?

I arrived at the corner just before where camp was set up, and the scene in front of me could have brought me to tears, I’m pretty sure it did. Five. Five was back. A smile bigger than my face then appeared, and I ran. I ran right into Five’s arms, grasping onto him as if he were to die tomorrow. He hugged back, a smile on his face too.

I looked at him for a second, he looked older. Not just physically, he looked as if he had stared death straight in the eye on a normal basis.

I had thought about what I was gonna say to him if I ever saw him again, I thought I would say how much I missed him and wished for him to come back to me, and I even played the scenarios out in my head. But, even to my surprise, I pulled back, suddenly furious.

I hit him, immediately regretting it, but it was too late to turn back.
“How could you do that to me, Five?!” I cried, my fist still hovering in the air, I forced it to my side. I started sobbing at that point, “You left me here for a year! I-”

“One year, six months, and fourteen days.” He says, shoving his hands in his pockets.

    “What?” I ask.

“That’s how long I was gone. I had to live with the guilt of thinking you were all alone with Delores, in this world. And in reality for me, I was there for five years,”.” He motioned to himself anf the world around us. I looked at him, eyebrows knit together.

“You kept track? I don’t understand. Where even were you?” I ask. Five sighs.

“Remember how I went to go get food, and didn’t come back?” I nod, and he continued. “Well, a woman was there, and she offered me a way to stop the world from ending, and I thought, what was one life, for the other seven billion?” He stopped, guilt flashing through his eyes. He took in a shaky breath, “but there was another twist. I had to become an assassin, killing people for the better of the world, the future. And so, that's what I thought for every life I took, another three would be spared. But in all reality, I was lying to myself. And I realized, I killed all those people for not the greater good, but the opposite, the woman that approached me, I was just her pawn. She was using me to help the world end. Soon after that revallation, I realized that I had to come back for you, so I stole a suitcase with time travel materialized in it, and opened it, and came back to you. I thought about going back to my family, but I couldn’t just leave you here.” Eyes glossed over, he stared at his feet, unable to look at me. I couldn’t help but feel bad for him.

“Hey,” I said, putting my hands on his shoulders, he looked up, “Thank you for coming back to me, we will find a way out of here, I know it.” He flashed a weak smile.
