"Hide him!", King Edward yelled to his wife.

Queen Eliza nodded and quickly gave him a kiss before racing off into the safety chambers. Bryan's eyes were wide and he looked up into his mother's eyes. He had recently learned to talk and be able to recognize who was who. He turned and watched as his mother took him down a long corridor and into a room filled with beautiful banner and tapestries. The bright colors made him coo with happiness and he fingered them as she entered out of breath.

"I'm getting too old for this", she grunted as she placed Bryan onto a frilly carpet.

The tiny child laughed and rolled around while the queen stared out of the window with fear in her eyes. She had been through several wars, but every one was a big scare to her. What if she was left alone to take care of the children? No man would end a king's life.  Would they? She shook her head to clear her thoughts and looked down at her child. Her precious child. He would be out there some day and in the thick of the fighting. She shivered at the thought and leaned against the chair with a sudden weak feeling. Bryan looked up at his mother will wide eyes.

"Are you okay mother?", he asked.

"I'm fine dear", she said and kissed his forehead.

Bryan looked up at her a few more minutes and shrugged his shoulders. If she wanted to be like that then oh well. He flinched when he heard the canons fire.

"Don't worry my sweet. They won't get you",  Queen Eliza promised softly.

He shrugged his shoulders and rolled onto his back and stretched on the soft carpet. He wished he could stay like this forever.  A sound made him turn around and he looked up. It was his father. His eyes were wide and he was shaking.

"We managed to take some of their land", he said.

"Was anyone killed?", the Queen asked.

"Not that I know of", he said with a shrug of his shoulders.

Bryan looked up at his father with admiration in his eyes. He wanted to be just like him one day.
