The Doctor is a busy man. Drawing up battle plans, aiding the research department when need be and his own paperwork are just some of the many responsabilities he shoulders. As such it's no surprise to find him sleeping like a log late in the night, with the piles of paperwork on his desk serving as unconventional, if expensive pillows.
Its become sort of an inside joke among Rhodes Island's younger operators The Doctor's messed up sleep schedule, and they often tease him about it when they have to wake him up in the morning (which happens more often than he'd like to admit), since left to his own devices no one knows when he'd get up.

For this, and many other reasons the Doctor was recommended by Kalt'sit to always have an assistant by his side, so that his work flows smoothly. Considering how much he does, you'd think this would be a given, but surprisingly he never thought of sharing his burden until he realized that this way he'd get to talk to his Operators and understand them better.
After that, he began rotating frequently between them as to not make anyone feel left out. Over time and as new members began joining the base, he made up a rule for himself to make the most recent hire his assistant for a week, to help them get a hang of the place while he familiarized himself with said person.
This is exactly what happened to Reed. Needless to say, she was surprised by this approach; to take someone like her who is risky to even be near and make her work in close proximity to him would ordinarily be an unwise decision.
Yet The Doctor was experienced, quickly assuring the Draco upon noticing her concern that everything would be fine as they walked to the office.

Day 2- Early morning.
-So this is your office... It's more cramped than I thought.
- I'm aware it looks messy, but you get used to it. With all the stuff that comes in and out of this room, there's no point in organising.
The Doctor glanced over at his room. At the moment, it looked more like a warehouse rather than an office. It was shaped like your average office and contained a rather large table stacked with paperwork, to the sides of which were boxes of all shapes and sizes. The floor for the most part was clean, and the shelves were organized which showed that at some point there was an intent to order the place (which didn't last long).
-Alright, let's get to work Reed. I look forward to our time together- Said The Doctor as he sat down and began his daily routine.
-Right. So, what do you need me to do?
-Ordinarily I'd ask you to compile my tasks for the day in a list, get me things I need and other menial favors. But instead there's something that I want to do this week specially because it is you.
Reed froze suddenly, even though she had been fine the entire time prior to that sentence.
''Specially because it is you''
How many times had she heard that before, in different variations? She had already lost count. To most people hearing this would get a positive reaction out of them; you'd think that no matter who it came from, knowing the fact that someone considers you distinct and appreciates you for that is beautiful.
But not to Reed. And certainly not being told so by doctors. Ever since her infection began worsening she sought treatment and many companies and research facilities offered to take her in and aid her, in exchange of allowing them to perform experiments on her dangerous and one-of-a-kind Oripathy. And it always ended the same way.
Surprised faces, panic and fear in being unable to fulfill a promise to someone of her abilities . Sideffects of the infection constanly mutating, leaving scars on her that remind her of all those times she was lied to. All those times that in an attempt to save face, scientists claimed she was simply incurable and then paid her huge sums of money in an attempt to shut her up from disclosing anything.
But even if they didn't pay her, she would have done them no harm. Because her life is already too short to waste time on vengeance, and the best bet was to find somewhere else to slow down the progression of her symptoms.
But The Doctor didn't seem to notice.
-W-What is it that you want to do?- Reed replied in a anguished tone, expecting to know the answer.
The coated man gave a simple answer. So simple, in fact, never in a million years would she have guessed it.
-What could it be? I just want to get to know you.
