Alex was up in his room finishing his homework. Josh was in the garage with their dad, fixing the car.
Alex was having a hard time with a math question. "Why do they have to make these so darn complicated for?" He asked himself upset. He wanted Josh to help him, but he didn't want to take Josh away from the special time he was having.
Alex sighed. "Guess I'll have to ask Google for this one-"
He got out his phone, typed in the math question, and an answer showed up. He wrote it on the homework sheet. "Let's hope that's the actual answer..."
Alex stopped writing when he heard his dad say something to Josh outside the room.
"I'll let you work alone now Josh."
Alex overheard it. "Josh sure is a fast learner when it comes to cars," He looked down at his paper. "Wish I was a fast learner of this crappy math question! Stupid mathematics!"
Alex was about to do some more of the homework, when Josh came bursting into the room, scaring Alex. "Alex! I replaced a spark plug-" Josh saw Alex out of breath. He giggled. "You get scared so easily,"
Alex shook his head. "I just got startled! You... barged into the room like people at Walmart on freaking Black Friday!"
That made Josh laugh.
Alex just chuckled. "Just let me finish my homework alright?"
Josh nodded. "Sure thing!" Josh said as he left the room just before closing the door.
Alex completed the last answer a few more minutes later. He looked at the clock on his wall and saw that it was nearing 11 P.M.
"Crud, where did the time go?"
Alex went to brush his teeth, and then he went to bed. "At least I got my homework done. Mr. Clarkson can't get mad at me this time."
He slowly drifted off to sleep.
But while he slept, he had the most bizarre dream-
Alex found himself walking down a path. He didn't know where he was, but he felt as if it was normal for some reason. The more he walked, the more he felt connected somehow.
He kept on walking, then stopped cold. There was a bright light in front of him, in the shape of a person. Alex could not see the face, but Alex felt as if it was a young teen, just
like him.
This "being of light" started to hover. Alex stepped back. Then something dark, showed up right next to the "being of light" seeming it was a dark version of this thing. Alex didn't know what was happening. Then he was something in the corner of his eye. A person covered in darkness. He was smiling evilly at Alex. Alex started at him, very scared. Alex noticed something on this guy's chest. A bright glowing letter "D"
Alex felt his body going weak
Alex jumped awake panting. "AHHH!" He yelled out. "W-what... what the...?" He panted. "What kind of nightmare was that?!" Alex crawled out of the bed, still shocked by the dream he had. He headed down the hallway and saw that Josh and his parents were still in bed. He went out to the kitchen and made a bowl of cereal, and brought it to the couch.
"That dream must have come on because of our talk of haunted houses-" Alex said annoyed. "Maybe Josh is right. I do get scared easily." He continued to eat his cereal until he heard the news reporter saying something about a fallen tree on the road.
"Oh shoot-" Alex said to himself when he saw exactly where the fallen tree was. "That's the road I take to go to my school. I guess I'll have to find another way." He finished up his cereal, went and got his bag, and put his homework inside it. He wanted to leave early because he didn't know how long the alternate walk would take him. He knows if he's just a second late to Mr. Clarkson's class he would not believe a single excuse. Plus, he also wanted more breakfast.
After he got all of his stuff, he left the house.
The town Alex lives in is very nice. He only wished he was near some of his friends. He is friends with all of Josh's friends, but he rarely gets to see them because he goes to a different school than them. He only has four lunch friends who he hangs out with at lunch. Shay, Tyler, Lionel, and Barry. But it's only during that time. Outside of the lunch period, he knows no one.
Alex saw the fallen tree up ahead. He could see workmen trying to lift the tree onto a flatbed to move it out of the way, but the progress seemed rather slow. "I guess I gotta find an alternative route. There is no way they are moving that tree in the next 2 minutes,"
Alex looked to the right of him and saw a road that went away from the main road. "I wonder if I'll reach school in time with that?" Alex walked down it.
He passed by small houses, and more houses, until he saw another road, that turned left. "Ah, that'll let me reach just fine,"
He walked down the street, passing even more houses. "These homes look so old. I wonder how long they've been here?" He asked himself. He realized he had never really been on this side of his town. It was rather peaceful. There wasn't much traffic like out on the main street. He kept on walking, but then he got this sudden chill. Alex didn't know what it was. It felt weird to him. He looked around, then to the right, and froze.
It was that abandoned house.
Alex just stared at the house. A million thoughts were racing through his head. The house looked old, and run down. Weed was growing on the wood of the house, you couldn't even tell that the paint on the home, was supposed to be white, with how dirty it was. After staring at it for a while, He looked away, then resumed walking. He finally reached back to the main road and could see his school up ahead.
"I-Is.. this what I'm going to pass again later on today?" He asked himself feeling a little scared. "What? Come on Alex get it together. There are no such things as ghosts,"
He reached the front gates of the school. He was relieved when he saw that the bell hasn't ringed yet. He walked over to the Cafeteria, then he saw that breakfast was closed.
He heard his stomach growl. He put his hand on his stomach and rubbed it. "Crap.... if only I was a little bit early,"
"Hey, Alex!" He heard someone say. He looked behind him and saw his friend Lionel. "Oh, hey!" Alex said. Lionel fist-bumped him. "Never saw you outside of lunch before haha," Lionel said. "Yeah, I just decided to come out earlier today because of that fallen tree,"
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that," Lionel said. "My mom drove me and she took a different path," Lionel said. "Cool. I just found another way to walk. Had to... walk past the abandoned house, bu-"
"The abandoned house?!" Lionel exclaimed. "Woah, did you see anything weird? Did anything weird happened?!"
Alex got a flashback of the chill he felt but figured it only happened because he was still on edge because of the dream. "N-No.. nothing weird happened,"
"You sure?" Lionel asked. "Positive," Alex said. He heard his stomach growl again. Alex looked at his stomach embarrassed. "Um... Just ignore that-" Alex said as he softly rubbed his stomach. He looked over at Lionel who chuckled. "You came a little late for breakfast huh? Well don't worry, Lionel will chuff into the station to save today" he said jokingly. He went into his bag and pulled out a Nature Bar. "Here, this should fill you up a little until lunch,"
Alex smiled and took it. "Thanks, Lionel"
"Now fill that tummy of yours up," Lionel said patting Alex's belly. Alex giggled. "Oh stop teasing me-"
"Never~" Lionel laughed.
The school bell went off. "I'll see you at lunch Al!" Lionel said. "See you!" Alex said walking to his class.
