"So where we goin'?" Sammy says from behind me, his deep voice ending the awkward silence between our group.

"Why don't we walk around and look at some vendors or something?" Nate suggests, shrugging my shoulders.

"I'm down, I guess." I bite my lip, reaching into my pocket to grab my phone.

I unlock it, looking to see that it's only been around 12 minutes of walking around since we left the others...

This group is dead.

As in, if we keep going like this for any longer, I will suffocate from the uncomfortable nothingness that is our conversation.

But what am I supposed to say?

Oh, I know I said we could be friends but honestly if you can't hold a conversation, and are gonna drag me along with some other random kid to do nothing, I probably would've been better off in Canada.

I mean it's what I'm thinking, but I've known Nate for less than 15 minutes, and I've already been rude enough to Sammy, so I'm just going to have to put up with it for now.

After another good - 13 or so minutes of walking around aimlessly, finding nothing but a couple of birds fighting over a dropped french fry, a guy who was incredibly persistant in selling light up t-shirts (which Sammy somehow was tricked into buying two of), and Nate stepping in a big ass wadd of gum, I decided it was time to take a nice, quiet, seat on a bench.

"You alright?" Sammy shifted his weight from foot to foot, looking down at me as if I were seconds away from freaking out.

I nod at him, "Mhmm... Maybe you could get me some cotton candy from over there?" I motion to the stand a little way down the path. I've got to figure out what we're going to do.

He shoots a small smile my way, before bending down to tie his shoe. "Gotchu, Nate you comin'?"

Nate takes a seat down on the bench, shaking his head,  before pushing his snapback further down on his head. "Nah, I think I'll just take a breather."

Horrified, I turn to him with a raised eyebrow, which he replies back to with a sly grin, and a wink.

Suddenly,

this bench doesn't seem so appealing.

Sammy shrugs, getting up and starting the walk toward the fluffy confectionary stand. I look back at Nate again. "Why?"

He laughs, "We don't know each other yet, chill ."

I play with the idea in my head.... He's right.

"Kay, then what sort of stuff are you into?" Might as well start a conversation.

"Rapping, I do a little boarding here and there, among other things."

Of course.

"We don't know each other, yet somehow I feel as if I knew exactly what you were going to say."

I smirk at him with sarcasm, and he gives me a cheeky smile right back, " Maybe because I just started telling you about myself."

I shake my head with a sigh, " Okay, continue."

"I enojy reading on occasion. And television."

"No freaking way! It's not like every other person in America does that!"

He continues grinning, "I'm more interested in mainstream scifi books, true, and I kinda like crime shows? I guess."

"Woah, detailed. You didn't sound too sure about that bud."

"Well, I don't know, I was really into like the percy jackson series when I was younger, and I'm always watching criminal minds for some reason."

I nod my head. Okay, now we're getting somewhere.

"Oh what was that? Did I see some form of a real smile from the ice queen?"  He looks up at me, his stupid chesire smile widening. "Did I choose the right genre?"

I roll my eyes, unable to stop myself from grinning as well, "Shut up Maloley. Okay, it's not my favourite show, but yes - I like Criminal Minds."

...I love criminal minds.

I look over at him, "Who told you?"

"Sammy. " He plays with his hat some more. "Forgive that I can't remember your absolute favourite show, and focus on the fact that through my tiredness this morning I was able to remember anything  from Sammy's unbelievably stupid bio of you."

Wait, what?

"Sammy gave you a bio of me?" I look over to the boy who was a few people away from the front of the cotton candy line, confused.

"All I know, is that I was tired as eff, I got into a car with the Jacks and Sammy, and accidentally made the mistake of asking, 'So who are these girls that are coming with?' Next thing I know, the boys are taking turns drilling me with info about you and your girls." He shakes his head, following my line of sight to Sammy.

I nod my head.

I mean it makes sense....

Gilinsky talking about Lex because, duh, he's interested in her.

Johnson talking about Kate because, well, I think he's interested in her, but no one really knows what kinda thing really went down between them at McDonald's.

And Sammy.....

I thought that we shut that down, but...

Chill Brooklynn, he'll get over it. No need to feel bad.

I look back over at Nate, "So.... Ice Queen?"

He stares up at me, perplexed.

I clear my throat, and try again, "You called me Ice Queen earlier? Is there a reason?"

He chuckles before looking back down at his feet, "You just don't really seem like you want to be here... Y'know? You're not really smiling or anything, you purposely tried to send Sammy and I to the cotton candy stand (with a long ass line), and we've only been here for like what- 30 minutes?"

I feel heat rise to my cheeks, I've been exposed.

"Okay, fair enough. I'll loosen up."

" 'Atta girl!" He puts his hand out for a high five and I roll my eyes - slapping his hand anyway. "And don't give Sammy such a hard time, okay? It's obvious that you're not interested, but I'm pretty sure he still is.... The least you could do is be a friend, and not send him to random food booths in order to get him away from you. The dude's more sensitive than he lets people think."

He had a point... I nod at him, before looking up to see Sammy finally being given his cotton candy.

I get up off the bench in a stretch, before pulling Nate up too. "By the way, if we don't get on any rides soon, I think you guys are going to be the ones who want to get away from me."

He laughs, putting on a nasally voice, "That's the spirit!"

"Never say that again. Please." I cringe at the cheesiness of his words and he just laughs harder.

I turn around to see Sammy, with a large cotton candy cone in his hand, confused. "What's so funny?"

I take a piece of the cotton candy, letting it melt in my mouth before shooting Sammy a smile. Surprisingly, not a fake one. " Don't worry about it, there are roller coasters that need to be ridden."

And with that, I charge ahead.
