It had been ten months since that fateful day with Irene. An unlikely friendship was born on that night. Sure you had gotten close with the other four as well, but the focus was on you and Irene. The two of you had kept close contact with each other since then. It was difficult, given how demanding both of your jobs were but you and Irene were able to make it work.
As promised, Irene got you into K-Pop. At first, it didn't really impress you but over time, it began to grow on you. Right as you were on the verge of stanning, Red Velvet's Psycho came out.
It pushed you over the edge.
At the turn of the new year, you immediately downloaded every bit of Red Velvet you could onto your phone. Day in and day out you would continue to be surprised by the discography of the five girls. You were into them so much that you began to incorporate their dance moves as part of your celebrations.
This captured the hearts of many people worldwide. People loved your willingness to fully recreate the choreography of their songs. Some went well, some went...well let's just say you fell flat on your face a few times.
You didn't care. As long as you could promote your friends as much as you could, you were fine with that.
However, despite winning the league title by five points, a disappointing exit at the hands of Leipzig in the Round of 16 of the Champions League along with a heartbreaking cup final loss to Braga was not a fun experience. You were determined to bounce back stronger this year.
Through it all, Irene was there for you. She would constantly tell you that it was ok and reassure you. Did the losses hurt? Of course. But the blow was softened given the fact you had someone like Irene by your side.
Speaking of which, the two of you were very close now. The friendship had evolved into a friendship that could be mistaken for a romantic one given some of the language.
But that was just the level of comfortableness you two were at. The platonic tension was very high.
Because truth was, both of you wanted something more. Despite not knowing how the other person felt, you and Irene liked each other. You were afraid of telling her due to the possible backlash she might receive while she didn't want to take time away from your career as a football player.
You were tired of hiding your feelings.
Which is why you were at Red Velvet's dorm right now, cake in hand.
You wanted to surprise the girls with your appearance because you hadn't seen them in almost a year. Schedule conflict didn't allow either of you to see each other. The interactions were limited to virtual.
You also were hoping to confess to Irene. You knew the risks of a relationship, but as much as you tried to push the feelings aside for her safety, they only increased.
