Chapter 3
My watch alarm beeps. It's 8:30 AM and I'm lying in Jaylen's bed, alone, with my bag on the ground. I open it and the pile of money is sitting on the top, glowing. There is an extra two hundred on top with a not. It read: Skye, thanks for last night and I hope you don't get hurt by those guys. If you ever need some more dough, just call me of any of the guys listed that are looking for a good time. -Jaylen.
Under the message there were about 6 different numbers that had different names of guys beside them. The blue ink looked fresh, so I figured he must have just stepped out. These numbers would help me out a lot - if I just had a phone. Then I remembered the cash. I decided before I meet up with Liam, I would go buy myself a cell phone with prepaid minutes so I wouldn't have to write down an address, but then I realized I could just get someone else to pay for it.
Before I buy the phone, I find a quarter and a phone booth and call Jaylen.
"Hello?" He answers on the first ring.
"Hey Jaylen, it's me, Skye. Listen, I need a cell phone, but I don't exactly have an address that they can bill to. I have some money, but could I possibly use your address for the bill?"
"Sure!" He replies. "You know what? I'll pay the bill, I have some extra money and phone bills aren't really expensive." His voice was so warm and manly.
"Thanks Jaylen, I appreciate it. Want to get together tonight?" I ask.
There's a long pause. "Uh, well, I kind of hired someone else for tonight... I'm so sorry. Maybe you can call my buddy Brent. He's a really nice guy and he pays well."
I agreed and hung up. Before I called Brent, I went to the phone company and decided that since Jaylen is paying for my phone, I could get anything I wanted. I got the most expensive Blackberry, and I bought a $100 a month plan. All of it was sent to Jaylen's address.
The clock on my phone reads 12:00 noon. Crap, I was supposed to meet up with Liam two hours ago. I feel bad for only seconds when I realize there is no point. I look at the numbers that are now programmed into my phone. If I follow through with all of this, I will have a very steady income and Liam won't need to find me a job. I dial Brent's number and make 3 appointments for this week. We agree that two grand for the week is fine and I hang up.
