Chapter 7
It's Christmas and I'm only weeks away from my due date. Living with Brent and Julie has been great so far; Julie and I have actually become pretty great friends. When I started living with them, they got my room done right away, and they agreed to pay half of my phone bill. Julie even held me a baby shower last month, and the nursery is almost finished. Sometimes I feel bad that they don't know that I'm barely 15 and a scammer, but then I realize that if they knew this, I would be on the streets.
At about 3, guests start pouring into the house and I'm being introduced to loads of family members and friends. This was my very first formal Christmas dinner so I was very excited. Things went pretty normal until the last person rang the doorbell. A tall, blonde, exact guy replica of Julie walks in.
"Skye, this is my twin brother Kyle. Kyle, this is our friend Skye." Julie introduces us.
Our eyes meet and we immediately get friendly with each other. He's 21, only three (6) years older than me, and he works in a surf shop in town, and he only lives across the street. He seems flawless, and I'm really interested in getting to know him.
After company leaves, I'm happy to say that I have Kyle's number and am planning to see him very soon. Julie is quiet for a little while, but soon speaks up. "I see you and Kyle hit it off, huh?"
"Indeed. He's awesome!" I say.
"Well, he's a great guy, but he likes trouble. So be careful." Julie says, biting her nails.
"Don't worry, Julie. I can read people really well. I'll know when he's looking for trouble." I say, reassuring myself that he's totally fine.
Every day for the next week, Kyle and I hang out. Him and I are even going to a New Years Eve party tonight. I'm excited to go to a party again because it's been exactly 9 months since I've been to one, but I'm also nervous because a party is where my troubles started and I am also due to give birth sometime this week so my plans can totally go down the drain. I'm all jittery and restless, and Julie and Brent look worried.
"Maybe you shouldn't go to the party tonight, Skye." Julie says.
"Julie, I'll be fine. Don't worry. I'm just excited to see Kyle." I say, tapping my foot.
She gives me a disapproving look, but shakes her head and smiles at me. She opens her mouth to say something, but my cell phone rings. I'm relieved. Caller ID reads Kyle, and my heart speeds up.
"Hey! Are you coming soon?" I answer.
"Uh, Skye, I think that we should just hang out at your place tonight. It's not a good idea to go to the party." Kyle says. He sounds disappointed that he can't go, but he seems pretty chill about it.
"Why? Did Julie call you? I'm feeling fine and I really want to go." I say, disappointed.
"No. Julie didn't call me. Just I know some people that are going to that party that I know you don't want to see and there's going to be stuff there that you don't want exposed to the baby."
I was getting kind of pissed off that we weren't going just because there was going to be alcohol and 'temptations' there. "Kyle, I'm a big girl I know not to do anything stupid. Let's just go!"
Kyle hangs up. My eyes go wide. I stomp downstairs and start freaking out. I don't even know why I'm making a big deal about him hanging up, but I can't help it. I grab the necklace he gave me and threw it on the ground. I was about to break it apart, but there's a knock at my door. "Julie, go away I'm not up for a talk right now." I yell, clutching the necklace, ready to tear it apart. The door opens anyways. I don't look and I just lay on my bed awkwardly until I feel warm hands rubbing my back. That's definitely not Julie. "Brent?" I question softly.
"No." It was Kyle. He took the necklace out of my hand and put it on my neck. I was about to ask him why he hung up on me, but he started talking again. "I didn't know about Jaylen before. This was his party and when I asked him if I could take you, he started ranting on about how you dated."
My heart sank when he said that. I knew for a fact that Jaylen would say a whole bunch of crap about me, most of it not being true. "W-What did he say?" I asked, stuttering, thinking that this could very well be the last conversation I would have with Kyle.
