It has been a couple months, Stacy was helping around more and more. I have been helping with the heavy lifting, sometimes even using my strength for some super heavy lifting. Stacy and the old lady have gotten closer, Stacy sees her as a grandmother even. Stacy and I have gotten closer as well, once she even slipped a little and called me sis. I almost cried. The old lady laughed at me for a week straight. The guards have done more checks, each time they had stronger guns. The old lady and I have talked, at night we'll sit outside looking at the stars. "We need to bring you to your kind." The old lady told me. "I can't, Stacy and I are happy here." The old lady would scoff every time. "In order for both of you to be safe, you need to go back. You have to understand and remember." I'd sit up and play with the grass in front of me. "Her safety comes first to me, I promised her freedom. I promised her a family, this is a family." We'd both go quiet, and after a few minutes she'd go inside. After an hour of so of looking up at the stars, I'd heard inside and go to sleep. In the morning, we'd interact as if we never spoke the night before. It was a repeat. The rate days were fun. The old lady and I would look for some straggler guards. We'd find some, and beat them up. It was fun, being able to use my powers. Eventually, I wanted to use them more than I did. I thought longer about what the old woman was telling me. I believed it more and more. Until finally, I was convinced. I twiddled with my fingers, it was dark out. Stacy was fast asleep in her bed, I had already heard the old lady go out. I took a deep breath and stood up, I exited the bedroom, then walked out the front door. The old lady was sitting in her usual spot. "For a second I thought you weren't coming." I sat down next to her and looked up at the sky. "I did too." The stars seemed extra bright this night, and shooting stars appeared more often. "You've been quite recently, Stacy thought you and I were in a fight. What's going through your head?" I looked down and pulled at the grass in front of me. "You were right. I need to find my first home, I need to remember." I heard the old lady chuckle. "I had a feeling you'd come around." I laid down on my back and shut my eyes. "I don't want to go though, but I know I need too. I just hate it." The old lady hummed. "Why do you hate it?" She asked, I opened my eyes. Tears threatened to fall. "When I leave, I want you to take care of Stacy." The old lady's head spun around to look at me. "Are you crazy?!" I felt a tear roll down my face. "It's the best option, it's my only option." I said quietly. "Screw that! She's going with you, whether you like it or not." I gripped onto my shirt tightly. "If she goes with me, the promise I made her will be broken. She won't believe there's a home for us anymore. I can't hurt her like that." I could tell the old lady wanted to say something, but she didn't. We sat in silence, tears continued to fall. "How about this, we all go." I sat up and looked at the old woman. "That's impossible. This is your home, I can't ask you to leave that behind." I could see her turn her head to look at me. "That's why you're not asking. I'm saying that's what's gonna happen." I was to stunned to speak. "It's been a long time of being in this old house alone, plus you two have softened me. So I don't mind going with you two." My tears were uncontrollable now, I leaped up and hugged the old woman. "Careful! I'm still an old woman!" I cried into her shoulder. She sighed, eventually she gave me a comforting pat on the back. I backed away and wiped my face with my arm. "Calm down, everything's going to be fine. We'll tell Stacy the news tomorrow. She'll be happy to be by your side." I nodded. "Go get some sleep." I stood up and walked to the front door. "One last thing!" I turned around to face the old lady. "Sweet dreams, Alex." I smiled. "Sweet dreams." I walked inside and went over to my bed. I looked over at Stacy, she had a small smile playing across her lips. I couldn't help but smile myself, I now knew that Stacy was going to be safe and happy. This here was something I wouldn't trade for the world. I climbed under my covers and stared at the ceiling above me. I shut my eyes, another tear slipped down my cheek. The happiness I felt let me sleep peacefully, it let me breath easily. For once, I truly accepted the feeling of comfort. The feeling of love, and the family I had made filled me with joy and peace.
