Kokomo

Courtney sighed as she pulled her hand back into the car, no longer having it swing outside the window, and rolling up the glass pane on the passenger side of the Honda civic. When her and Shayne had started this little trip to the airport, blue skies had shone down on the road ahead of them, setting a great and fitting mood for their trip to the Bahamas ahead of them, but now the sky was shielded by a dark grey mass that soon began to pelt down bullets of rain, and now they could see trees off in distance, looking as if any moment they could rip from the earth. Now that the weather had taken such a turn for the worse, her playing Kokomo by the beach boys didn't seem as fitting anymore, but still, in her eyes it was a bopper, so she didn't bother skipping the song. And besides, considering where they were going, it couldn't have been more fitting.

It was a good thing she didn't mention going away on any social media, because knowing the shippers out there, she was sure they'd figure out that she was going with Shayne, and although they weren't a couple, she'd have to be blind not to realise how that would seem to practically anyone. She could admit it was strange, but this holiday thing was sort of sprung upon her. She remembered that day, maybe six weeks ago, sitting at home in quarantine, having nothing to do except watch daytime TV.

She didn't really understand what was going on in the gameshow, or even what the objective was, or even if the host knew what the objective was, but she did know that watching washed up, or D-list celebrities make fools of themselves on these gameshows was one of the only entertaining things to look at on regular television at this time of day.

Midway through the mindless show, the host mentioned a giveaway of 'Two tickets to the sunny beaches of the Bahamas!' Although she knew that the chances of winning against all the stay at home parents indulging in day time drinking who were undoubtedly the main competitors was slim, she was in a very 'Fuck it' mood, and so decided to enter. However her winning was not part of the plan. After a short bout of shock, she figured it was a good thing. The show said the tickets would be for the first plane to the Bahamas after the covid restrictions had been lifted, so she had some time to decide who she should bring. Her first thought had been Olivia, but if Olivia came, Sam would undoubtedly want to come as well, and Olivia would probably encourage it, and although Courtney loved both of them, she did not love the idea of spending a 'relaxing weekend' being the awkward third wheel for the couple. She could have decided to bring Kimmy, or Jackie, or Ian, Keith, Noah or Damien, but she knew that she kind of had to bring Shayne. Shayne and her had been through... stuff, to put it lightly. They had been rocks for each other over the five years they had known each other, Shayne helping her with her last breakup, giving away Jango, and being a steady, and reliable presence during her health scare. As for Shayne, he tried so hard to be there for other people without letting anyone, or himself, be there for him, and Courtney knew that deep down he needed as much as anybody. Honestly, it would have almost been an insult not to ask. So one might ask why she had even hesitated.

For more than a while now, Courtney knew that she had some sort of feelings for him. What they were, she wasn't sure, but they were there nonetheless. Recently they had only been growing in strength, to the point where every time they locked eyes all she wanted was to rush up to him and devour his lips, and possibly it was wishful thinking, but she could swear that she had seen the same look in his eyes more than once. She wasn't sure if she could trust herself to keep her hands off him for the  full weekend, and only God knew what the consequences of that could entail.

They finally arrived at the airport, Shayne pulling out one side of his jacket and holding it over Courtney's head as if it were an umbrella, making Courtney's heart melt at the rom-com action, both of them rushing to get through the door. When they did, they were instantly greeted by a loud voice over the intercom.
