Chapter Two
Laryn's POV
"I'm telling you," Helena said for about the ninth time this hour. "The Abnegation have something to do with the declining yearly Factionless rate. They're taking them in their homes, and they're giving them food too, maybe the same amount they eat a day-"
"There is nothing illegal about giving the Factionless food," I intrude. "Are you sure they aren't dying off?"
"We haven't seen the Factionless in at least a week," an Abnegation boy says. "We can't give them necessities if we can't find them."
"Regardless," Helena argued. "We need to do something about this before there aren't any Factionless left."
"Why would you care about the Factionless population?" A Erudite girl says. "It's not like you are being affected by their presence."
"We don't think that the treatment of the Factionless is fair," A Candor boy argues. "Some get little from Abnegation, and we feel like some are getting greater amounts than others."
"What are we supposed to do?" Issac asks.
"Ask to pass a notice," Helena demands. "Until further notice, the Abnegation can only give out one piece of food per person per day. Failure to meet the guidelines could result in custody."
"I like it," An Amity girl says. "Until we can find a further solution to the crisis."
"Anyone in favor," Justin orders. "Cast your ballot." I press the button for the Factionless restrictions. It was either their decision to leave their Faction, or they didn't work hard enough to stay with their desired Faction. So why do they need an imbalance of food?
"Anyone not in favor," Justin asks. "Cast your ballot." A few people look down to press the button.
A screen appears in front of us, and the results of the vote are automatically documented. Twelve of us are for the change, and three are against it.
"The notice will take effect tomorrow," Justin said. "See you all tomorrow." And we all split up to our homes.
