Patton shot up. He wasn't in his room. He looked around before remembering what happened. It was his 15th birthday, he had run away from his quinces and now he was at The Lams Hotel.
He looked to the window, seeing that the sun had already began to set. But it was the summer. It wasn't surprising. There was a soft knock at the door.
Patton walked over and opened the door.
"Dinner is going to be open for another 20 minutes, if you want to eat something." Emile said. "Sorry, I'd knocked when it started and you didn't open up."
"It's okay, it was my fault, I fell asleep. I was just like... overthinking, stressed. I had a headache. So sleeping was the best option for me. And I couldn't sleep last night, I couldn't stop thinking about this big decision." He said. He ran his fingers through his hair. Emile sighed.
"I'm sorry for what I'm about to do, you can tell me to stop." Emile said. He wrapped his arms around Patton, hugging him comfortingly. Patton put his arms down and wrapped them around Emile too.
"Thank you." Patton said quietly.
"Hey, there aren't a ton of people here my age." He said with a small laugh. "And you seem really cool." He said.
"Thanks, Emile." Patton said with a small smile. "You seem pretty cool too." He said. Emile pulled away.
"Sorry."
"It's okay, I swear. It was nice." He said. Emile let a small laugh.
"So, uh, food is downstairs." Emile said. Patton nodded with a smile. They made their way downstairs and sat at a table together in the dining area.
Someone with dark hair and a teal jacket walked up to them.
"Hey." He greeted. He looked older than Patton and Emile, around Andi's age. Patton and Emile looked up at the man.
"Oh, hi, Dominic!" Emile said.
"You must be our new guest." Dominic said happily. "Patton, right?"
"Yes, sir. Patton Hart." He said. Dominic laughed softly.
"None of that. I'm Andi's husband, Dominic." He said. Patton adjusted his glasses.
"O-Oh! Right!" Patton said. "Nice to meet you!"
"So, I heard that you're here because you're a trans man." Patton nodded nervously. "Sorry, I guess that was a little direct. I just came to offer a haircut. If you want." Dominic said. Patton smiled.
"That would actually be great." He said. Dominic smiled.
"Great!" He exclaimed. "Well, if you want, we can do it after you're finished eating." Patton nodded with a smile.
Patton sat on the chair, Dominic stepping on a switch to raise it to the right height. Dominic combed out his hair, dampening it so that it stayed straight and so it was longer.
Dominic cut off a sizeable chunk, making Patton sharply wince, his shoulders getting tense.
"Is this your first haircut?" Dominic asked.
"Y-Yeah." Patton said nervously.
"Makes sense. You're hair is very long. And a lot of these more traditional family's have their hair never cut, unless it's like bangs or something." Dominic said. Patton hummed in response. "It's alright, just try to relax, okay?"
"Okay."
It wasn't too long before Dominic had finished cutting his hair. He combed it again as he blow dried Patton's hair.
"Nervous?"
"Yeah."
"I think it looks good." Dominic said as he turned around the chair so Patton could see himself in the mirror.
"Oh my god..." Patton said. Tears flooded Patton's eyes.
"Oh, god, did I do bad, I'm sorry, I can probably--"
"I love it so much..." He said before sniffling. "Thank you." Patton ran his fingers through his hair, as if to check that it was real.
"O-Oh. I'm glad that you like it." Dominic said, unclasping the styling cape. "It's getting a little darker, you should probably head up to your room. Or the rec room." Dominic said, letting the chair back down.
"Rec room?" Patton asked, stepping down.
"It's got like games and stuff. It's to keep people entertained." Dominic said. He added a small laugh. "Before we had that, people got bored a lot. I'm glad that we got the money and donations to have a room for our guests," He said with a smile.
"I think I'm just gonna head up to my room. Thank you so much though, Dominic." Patton said with a wide smile. He turned to leave before Dominic stopped him.
"Wait!" He said, making Patton turn. "I don't want to seem creepy, but we should be able to get your a binder soon if you want one." He said. "We can bring the ordering form up to your room if you want me to. You fill it out yourself, so you don't have to share intimate details like that." Patton smiled.
"That sounds great, thank you." He said, his voice cracking.
"I do have to let you know though, you should only wear it for 8 hours a day--"
"And you shouldn't sleep in it, if you do, it can cause damages that make it so you're unable to get top surgery, I know." Patton said. Dominic nodded.
"I'm glad you know." Dominic said, getting out a broom and dustpan. "I'll have the forms sent up tomorrow morning, okay?" Patton nodded.
"Thank you, Dominic."
"It's my job!"
Patton gave Dominic another smile before leaving the room.
"Hey--" A sharp gasp was heard, making Patton turn his head. Emile. "You look great!" He said.
"Thanks. Have you been waiting here?" Patton asked, confused. It had to have been at least an hour.
"Oh, no, I was in the Rec Room and then I ha to use the restroom, so I left." He said with a laugh. He looked at his watch. "Hey, I should probably get home now." Patton nodded.
"Okay, see you tomorrow then?" He asked. Emile smiled and nodded.
"But I do have to work tomorrow. So if you do, I'll be behind a desk or like... doing the laundry." He said with a small laugh. "I'll probably see you though!" He said. He waved before leaving the building.
Patton looked through the window of the small window on the rec room door.
There was a couple of people (male looking people) who were playing air hockey and two boys were very close together in front of an arcade game. They were either playing together or fighting over who could play first.
He opened the door... maybe he could make some friends.
