QUICK NOTE- THEY ARE MUCH OLDER NOW.

Wind whipped at Fitz, blowing a lock of hair until his eyes. He ignored it, eyes focusing on a pair of people snuggled together on a bench.
They were both blondes, their golden hair mixing together as their lips connected in a passionate embrace.
Fitz felt the clutch of hate and jealousy squeeze his heart. His fingers dug into his leg through his dark blue pants.
The two figures pulled apart, and Fitz let out a sigh of relief. The girl's eyes were a pale green, not brown.
"Fitz?" Fitz's heart leaped. It was her. Not with Keefe, with me. "What are you doing here?" She sounded hurt.
Fitz turned and his heart plummeted. It was Sophie, but standing at her side was Keefe, his icy blue eyes narrowed. "We told Alden we were just going to the zoo." Sophie said. "He didn't trust us?"
Fitz scrambled for an explanation. "I went here alone," he admitted.
"Why?" Keefe asked, slinging his arm over Sophie's shoulder. Sophie leaned into Keefe's embrace in a way that made Fitz want to hurl.
"I wanted to see what humans found so amusing about imprisoned animals." Fitz lied.
"You could've just asked to tag along." Sophie pointed out, reaching up to tug out an eyelash. Before she could, Keefe batted her hand away.
"Stop that," he turned to Fitz. "You okay? We asked if anyone wanted to go, and they all said no. Well," he added. "Biana insisted we go alone."
"Exactly. I wouldn't dare risk Biana's wrath." Fitz's shudder wasn't totally fake. "I had to sneak out."
Keefe's eyes were still narrowed, but Sophie shrugged. "Whatever. We were just about to check out the penguins."
"Tuxedo birds, Foster." Keefe corrected.
"Penguins."
They started down the path, still bickering. Eventually, Fitz followed, a scowl gracing his face. Sophie laughed, the sound a clear burst of sound. One that made Fitz's heart ache. He wanted to be the one to make her laugh.
Keefe grinned, swiping a hand through his hair. "I told you!" He cried. "Tuxedo birds!" He pointed at the waddling animals lounging around a pool of water.
Sophie leaned over the railing, the wind ruffling her honey colored hair. How Fitz longed to feel the smooth strands beneath his fingers. "They look so sad," she said softly, brown eyes shining. "I wish I could do something."
"We can!" Fitz shouted. "We can set them free!"
Sophie laughed, but it wasn't the laugh Fitz wanted to hear. This laugh was low and sad. "We can't do anything, Fitz." She stretched an arm out, as if to grab hold of the chubby birds, but thought better of it, and snuggled into Keefe.
Jealousy like a red hot poker drove itself into his side. Keefe kissed Sophie's cheek absently. "Poor birdies," he murmured. "What if we brought them to Havenfield?"
Sophie shook her head. "We can't. Besides," she added wryly. "I'm pretty sure it's illegal."
Keefe flashed his signature smirk. "Some rules are made to be broken, Foster."
Sophie snorted, interlacing their fingers. "Next time." She spared Fitz a glance. "Where do you want to head next?" She consulted the map. "The polar bears should be around here."
Keefe reached over and flipped the map around. "What about those? Elephants?"
Sophie shrugged, tucking the map into her pocket. "Sure." She turned to Fitz, a strand of hair falling into her eyes. "You coming?"
Fitz nodded, numb and followed, feet dragging in the dirt. They loved each other, that was clear. The only way to make Sophie mine is by eliminating the competition.
Up ahead, Sophie stumbled and Keefe swept her into his arms. Fitz felt his lips curl back. When this is all over, Sophie will be mine.

"So, Sophie." Fitz said, sliding next to her. "Any animals that enjoy human flesh?"
Sophie looked alarmed. "What?" She traced a design on the table. "Um. The lions, maybe?" Her eyebrows scrunched. "Why?"
"No reason." Fitz turned away, teal eyes sparkling. You took Sophie away from me. Now I'm taking you away from Sophie.
Keefe emerged from the lines, hair mussed, arms full of food. "Some people," he muttered, setting the food down and smoothing his hair. "I just wanted a hot dog."
Sophie grabbed a bowl of chili, snorting. "That's because you're eye candy."
Fitz pulled a sandwich towards himself, removing the toothpick. I hope you leave Sophie for someone else. It would make this a whole lot easier.
Keefe bit into his lunch, ducking to avoid a wad of paper thrown his way. Sophie set her spoon down, unfolding the paper. With a laugh, she handed the slip to Fitz.
Teal eyes- Hey cutie, ;) we should go out. - Marella
Fitz wrinkled his nose, crumpling the paper. "Ew." He announced, tossing the paper into the trash bin.
Keefe rolled his eyes, stealing Sophie's spoon. She whacked his arm. "Give me that." Keefe relented, releasing the spoon.
Sophie poked her chili. "Why are you really here, Fitz."
He blinked. "What do you mean?"
Sophie's eyebrows rose. "You don't care about the zoo, Fitz. That much is clear. So, why?"
"I-I, uh wanted to see the tuxedo birds?" His voice pitched an octave higher.
Keefe rolled his eyes. "Please. Was it Alden?"
Fitz shook his head. "Sophie always talked about the zoo, and-" his voice died. Sophie's eyes had taken on a shine.
"Why are you lying to me?" Keefe wrapped an arm around her, chili forgotten.
Fitz felt an uncontrollable anger. He shoved off from the table, face red. "Because I like you, Sophie!" He shouted. "And you can't tell! You're too obsessed with him!" He jabbed a finger at Keefe, who stared at him, open mouthed. Sophie had paled visibly, pressing a hand to her mouth. Fitz felt sick. "Sophie,"
Sophie stood up, leaning towards Fitz. "You, you, you," she burst into tears. "I thought you would be happy for us!" She wailed.
"Soph-" Keefe was cut off as Sophie ran into the bathroom, still crying.
All eyes were on them now, and Keefe scowled at Fitz. "Good going."
Fitz pressed his hand to his stomach. "Why, she-"
"She's pregnant, Fitz. " Keefe's voice was flat. "Biana knew. You may have lost her as a friend for good." He slipped away.
Fitz buried his face into his hands, and let the tears flow.
