Excited to meet and see your parents, Oikawa happily opens the door to see an angry version of you but just older. His first impression of your mother frightened him, but he maintained the bad thoughts from overflowing his brain."Welcome back, Mom and Dad!" Oikawa greets as they just shove their way past the door.
"We're really upset at you, F/n," your dad says to Oikawa in disappointment as your mom just ignores Oikawa's greetings.
"Oh," is all Oikawa says and closes the door. "I-I made dinner; so we can eat!" Your mom drops her bag on the couch and immediately heads into the kitchen where the dining room is. 'Scary...' he thinks and feels shivers running down his spine. Once your parents get settled in their seats, Oikawa and your parents start to eat with awkwardness in the air.
"M-Mom and Dad, how was your guys' trip back?" Oikawa decides to interrupt the silence. Finally, your mother decides to speak and places her utensils down.
"F/n," she calls out.
"Y-yes!"
She gives Oikawa a harsh glare.
"We didn't just come out of our way and job to happily visit," she flat out says, "We were forced to come here to ask you about why you told your counselor that you wanted to be a writer? You do understand how difficult it is to publish books and get a crowd to actually read your books? What are you even planning on writing about? If you want to live a good life with riches, you need to do the highest paying jobs that guarantee wealth." Oikawa's fists tightens and they start to sweat.
"W-well, I don't necessarily agree with that," he blurts out which shocks both of your parents. You rarely spoke back to your parents. Growing up, you were always obedient.
On the other hand, you are trying your hardest to listen through your bedroom door.
'I can't really hear what's going on!' you think to yourself.
Oikawa continues, "I don't think you need to make a lot of money in order to live a good and happy life." What Oikawa says causes your mom scoffs.
"You say that right now, F/n, but in the future, you'll see how important money is."
"I do understand how important money is, Mom, but I think I'd be happier just being able to make enough money--"
"F/n," your dad joins in the conversation, "you do remember my first job, right?" This question causes Oikawa to sweat.
"Uhh, yeah," he hesitantly says, hoping your dad won't ask him about it.
"Well, before I got into this business, I went to college and went into psychology because that's what I was interested in," your dad explains as Oikawa nods, "and once I finished school, I expected to get a good job and everything. Life didn't work out the way that I thought and I wasn't happy like I thought I would be. I was struggling to make money and find a job. If I could, I would've told myself back then to change majors and not follow what I think would make me happy." Oikawa thinks to himself.
"What you're saying makes sense to me, Dad, bu--"
"But this, but that. F/n, why can't you just listen to us and stop trying to argue with us!" Your mom rolls her eyes impatiently. "We just don't want you to make the same mistake we made! We're doing this for your own good!"
Oikawa hesitantly shuts his mouth and stares down at his plate. He's never felt so inferior to his parents before; in his household, his parents would always ask for his opinion and always lent a helping ear. Now, he was finally experiencing how you felt everyday.
