"Are you seriously not going to tell Iwa-chan until he notices?" You raise a brow at the sneaky boy who evilly giggles."I wonder how long it'll take him to notice?"
'Not very long,' you think as you vividly remember how Iwaizumi would y'all about Oikawa when you both were alone.
The two boys were best of friends and knew almost every little flaw and detail about each other. It was a like they had a 6th sense that connected the two.
"Hello, guys!" Oikawa yells at the team and places a hand on each of their shoulders.
"Why are you so loud this morning, Oikawa?" Matsu asks and yawns.
"Just excited to beat Tobio-chan to the ground!"
Silently, you just smile at the radiance Oikawa was giving off.
'This is a very important day for him. I'm pretty sure he's ecstatic and misses playing on the court with the team.'
"Oi, Oikawa; what did you tell F/n to do this time? Did you force her to act like you again?" Iwaizumi whispers to you.
Playing along with Oikawa's game, you shrug.
"I just wanted to make this game extra special for the team! I mean, it is the semifinals and we're going against Tobio-chan!"
"You really are a jerk."
An arrow shoots through your head and you mentally cry.
'This is the first time Iwa-chan called me a jerk!'
Soon enough, everyone aboards the bus and heads to the gymnasium. As the team arrives, they immediately head to warm up for the game against Karasuno.
"F/n-chan," Oikawa calls over to you as you're filling up the bottles.
"What is it, Oikawa-kun?"
Nervously, he spins the ball with his hands excessively.
"I don't know if I'll be able to bring the team to victory," he confesses—shocking you.
"Eh? What do you mea—"
"I haven't played volleyball in this body for a while and I'm not some kind of genius where I'll immediately be great again!! It has taken me so much effort to get where I am today. What if I fail the tea—"
Before he could finish, you slap both hands against his cheeks and bring his face down to yours.
"Talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish," you say, "but the prerequisite to do all of that, is to love and believe in yourself. Don't fall backwards, Tōru. Always say you believe in your teammates, right? How about believing in yourself from now on?"
Oikawa's eyes widen for a while before his entire face relaxes into a lazy smile. Comfortably, he rests his face against your hands; so now, you're carrying his head.
"You just called me, 'Tooru.'"
An irk mark forms on your temple as you release his face causing him to almost fall forward.
"Is that really all you got from that lecture?!" You crack your knuckles.
Feeling your deadly aroma, he lifts his hands to defend himself.
"I-I'm sorry, I'm sorry F/n-chan! I did listen," he hesitantly laughs and tries to calm you down. Giving you a smile, he suddenly wraps his arms around your body. "Thank you, F/n-chan."
Instantly, the irritated feeling goes away and you wrap your arms around his waist.
"Of course, Oikawa-kun."
"Stoppppp," he pouts and holds you by the arms, "call me, 'Tooru!'"
"I don't want to," you sing and release yourself from his grasp to carry the container of bottles.
Without a second thought, he automatically helps you carry the rest."Why not, F/n-chan?" he cries as you avert eye contact with him.
Blush is apparent across your face.
"B-because... it's embarrassing."
Smiling at your adorableness, Oikawa comes up with an idea.
"Fine then! If I win this match, you must call me by my name from now on!"
"Eh? I don't agre—"
"Hurry up the two of you!!" Iwaizumi yells.
Before you could say any more to the boy, he runs off to annoy Iwaizumi.
"Of course you're going to win, baka," you whisper to yourself before heading into the gym.
Once everyone is warmed up, the game immediately starts with Tsukishima serving first. Like usual, Iwaizumi gets ready to hit Oikawa's set until he ends up doing a setter dump instead.
"Nice, Oikawa!!" Makki sings as Iwaizumi stares in shock.
Noticing Iwaizumi's stares, Oikawa gives a cheeky smile with a thumbs up.
The smile gives Iwaizumi an annoyed gut feeling, but it oddly brought a sense of happiness in Iwaizumi.
"O-Oikawa?" Iwaizumi hesitantly calls out.
Trying to hold in his laugh, Oikawa turns around."Yes, Iwa-chan?"
The tone was different from the way you would usually call Iwaizumi's name and realization hit him.
"Took you long enough to come back, loserkawa!" Iwaizumi immediately spits out an insult.
"Haaa?! So rude, Iwa-chan!!"
"Guys, we're in the middle of a game! Let's focus!!" Matsu sings to the boys.
"You better tell me about what happened later," Iwaizumi whispers as Oikawa giggles.
"Yes, yes!"
A smile instantly appears on both of their faces.
"Welcome back, jerk."
"I'm back, Iwa-chan!"
Hearing Iwaizumi's loud insult, you automatically knew that Iwaizumi had realized he finally got his best friend back.
'These boys have the cutest friendship.'
