Woo, angst!! This hurt me to write.
TW: transphobia, unaccepting people, language
No one, I repeat, NO ONE has the right to tell you your identity isn't valid or use the wrong name or pronouns for you. You ARE valid and you DO deserve the basic respect and decency of having people use the correct name and pronouns. I will fight anyone that tries to say otherwise (apart from the assholes at school but other people have offered to murder them for me).

That evening the Marauders sat by the lake, basking in the last few rays of light from the setting sun.
"So, Em, what were you going to tell us earlier?" Peter asked.
"Aye, we're dying of curiosity here," added James
"C'mon tell us, pleeeeeeaaaaasssseee." Despite the fact that he already knew, Sirius was playing along to spare the feelings of the other two.
Remus took a deep breath. "Okay, so-" he started.
James immediately interrupted "Did you kill someone?"
"Do you need our help hiding the body?"
"Are you secretly an alien? I knew it, I knew you weren't from Earth!"
"What planet are you from? Or is it a moon?"
"The moon would make sense."
"But could you put a werewolf on the moon?"
"No because they would die from lack of oxygen."
"What makes you think we'd send them there without oxygen?"
By this point Remus was getting anxious, he appreciated the joking but he wanted to say his thing.
"She's getting nervous, she knows we're onto her," commented Peter.
Noticing this, Sirius' tone softened "Whatever it is we're here for you, even if you are an alien."
"Yeah, we've got your back, even if you're not from Earth."
Peter nodded in agreement.
Lily, who had been chilling and watching from a distance with her friends, walked over. "Em, you okay? Are they bothering you?" She asked, silently letting him know that he didn't have to do this now.
"No," Remus replied, "I'm just going to say it." He paused for a second then spoke again. "I'm transgender. I'm not a girl, I was just born one."
The five sat in silence for a little while
"So, you're a boy now? Just like that?" Peter asked, his voice empty of the light joking mood from just minutes earlier.
"I'm going to be honest," James said, "I'm not really sure what any of that is supposed to mean."
"Sounds fake if you ask me." Replied Peter.
"BITCH!" Sirius yelled, drawing the attention of the few students out in the cold winter evening.
"Sirius, keep your voice down, we don't need to out him to the whole school just yet."
"Sorry, Re."
"Thanks Lils. It's okay Siri."
"Wait," the confusion was evident in James's voice, "who's Re? Also can someone please explain what you mean when you say you're not a girl?"
"Okay, I'm guessing that Re is a nickname that I'm stuck with now, it's shortened from Remus."
"Transgender describes someone whose gender is different to the one assigned to them at birth based on the outward appearance of their genitals," Lily explained.
"Okaaaayyy... I'm still confused."
"It takes a while to adjust, don't worry about that, just try to call me my new name and refer to me as male around the 5 of us," Remus reassured, voice shaking just the slightest bit.
"But if there's anyone else around then use the old terms because you'll out him otherwise," Sirius added.
Then Peter spoke again. "This doesn't make sense, you can't just change your gender, that's not how it works." With that Peter stood up and walked away. (a/n this hurts me to write)
The remaining marauders were silent for a while, the James, hesitant and slightly sadly said "I-I'm not sure which side I'm on, I promise that I won't tell anyone though."
"Th-thanks, I guess," Remus replied, trying to hold back tears.
James then stood up and left because it was becoming obvious that his presence wasn't helping, while Lily and Sirius hugged Remus tightly.
"I'm sorry that they weren't great about it, Remus."
Remus sniffed. "Well, what can you do?" He replied in a half joking tone that was drenched in sadness.
"You might not want to do anything but I am going to go talk to both of those two and try to get them to see sense." Sirius rose to his feet, twisting his hair into a bun that was held up by his wand.
"Don't make things worse," Lily warned.
"I'll try."
"Sirius..." Remus' tone would almost always get Sirius to at least listen to him, even if he wouldn't comply.
"Okay, okay, I'll stay calm, can't promise that they will though."
"Just be careful."

Okay, I finally finished that chapter. I don't hate Peter, I just love James too much to make him completely reject Remus immediately. Also Peter isn't irredeemable, unlike Snape. I know what I'm doing in the next few chapters but I probably won't update this one for a bit. I might try and make a schedule for updates but it probably won't last a week so it's not really worth it.

Randomwhat if everyone's favourite werewolf was a trans boy (and dating Sirius Black) umm, shouldn't be too angsty (I think, I haven't decided yet) but it's set in the 70s (when the marauders were at Hogwarts) so people won't always be the most accepting ...
